Defending Champion Tang in "Field of Sickos"

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Danny Tang
Danny Tang

With 70 players from a field of 259 left in the EPT Prague €10,300 High Roller, defending champion Danny Tang is still going strong and he says that the title of defending champion "definitely means something" to him.

"In general I think this is a really prestigious event," said Tang. "In a €10k High Roller, you know, some of the best in the world are still here. It's just good to compete with some of the best."

The atmosphere has changed here on Day 2, with re-entries no longer available and the field slowly shrinking until the money with all sorts of players still in.

"You get different kind of players in this event. Some are always on the phone, whereas others are here right from the very beginning on Day 1. In general everyone is going to be very focused because of the fact it's a €10k High Roller."

Last year Tang took down the €10,300 High Roller when it was part of the PokerStars Championship, and Tang says that this year the field is still very tough, despite there being, in his words, "less sickos".

"I think the brand is still the same, even last year when it was the PokerStars Championship everyone knows it's still EPT. A lot of players aren't here, but I wouldn't say the field is better.

"There are just less sickos - still very tough though, obviously!"

Danny Tang raised to 5,000 from early position and saw Pavel Plesuv call from the hijack. Steven van Zadelhoff then moved all in from the cutoff and Tang folded.

Plesuv called, and the hands were turned on their backs.

Steven van Zadelhoff: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Pavel Plesuv: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Board: {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

Van Zadelhoff was wary of the ace, but the board ran clean for the Dutchman, and he improved to a full house for the double.

The board was down {j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, and Filipe Oliveira bet close to the pot amount for 43,000 from the big blind, and Yuri Martins Dzivielevski called from the cutoff.

The river card was the {2-Spades}, and Oliveira thought for 25 seconds before he checked. Martins Dzivielevski checked behind for a showdown, and Oliveira paused for a few seconds before he tabled {q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for queen high.

Martins Dzivielevski flipped over {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and won the pot with two pair to extend his chip lead.

Farrell Survives as Bosca Departs

Level 12 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Vicent Bosca moved all in for 29,000 from under the gun and saw Pavel Plesuv call from the cutoff. Niall Farrell was in the small blind and asked for confirmation of the all-in amount before he shoved for 68,000.

Plesuv called and was the big favorite to score a double elimination.

Vicent Bosca: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Pavel Plesuv: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Niall Farrell: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The flop fell {6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades}, and Plesuv kept his lead over both opponents. The turn {4-Hearts} was no help to either Bosca or Farrell.

"Three!" shouted Farrell, for reasons unknown.

But it worked as the river fell the {j-Hearts} and he hit a set to score a double up on the brink of elimination.
