Seth Davies Leads Final 18 in PokerStars EPT Barcelona €10,300 High Roller

After a marathon eleven hours of play on Day 2 of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona €10,300 High Roller it is American Seth Davies who leads the final 18 players.

After coming into the day well-positioned with 50 big blinds, Davies navigated his way to the top thanks to some big late pots and will be eyeing up the €824,000 first place prize when play resumes tomorrow. He sits on a stack of 2,595,000

Other big stacks at the end of Day 2 include Johnny Nedved (2,195,000) and Joris Ruijs (2,150,000), who has already tasted success here at EPT Barcelona after winning a €2,000 Side Event for €260,050.

The day began with 151 entrants, but with around two dozen players joining at the start of Day 2 there was still a long day’s play ahead, with

Among the new players was Daniel Negreanu, who got his 20 big blinds in with pocket sevens on a king-seven-deuce flop, only to run into the pocket kings of an opponent.

The early pace was set by start-of-day chip leader Justin Ligeri, who was soon up over 600,000 after some well-timed aggressive play, with other big stacks including Lucas Reeves, Joris Ruijs, Louis Nyberg and Gianluca Speranza.

With just 63 players paid, the bubble burst when Byron Kaverman moved all in for his last 16 big blinds with ace-king. He was called by Siarhei Chudapal with pocket eights, and after an eight came on the flop, Kaverman was drawing almost dead. Chudapal filled up on the turn and the remaining players were all guaranteed €18,100.

Early eliminations in the money included Kitty Kuo (62nd - €18,100), €100,000 Super High Roller final tablists Matthias Eibinger (53rd - €19,560) and Benjamin Pollak (47th - €19,560), Will Kassouf (45th - €19,560), PokerStars Team Pro Jeff Gross (43rd - €19,560), Bryn Kenney (40th - €19,560) and Spaniard Adrian Mateos (33rd - €22,600).

By this stage, it was Norbert Szecsi who was one of a select few players with seven-figure stacks, with Aaron Lim joining him after eliminating Ligeri after the American’s stack dwindled after coming into the day as overnight chip leader.

Seth Davies began his assault on the end-of-day chip lead in the penultimate level after he eliminated two players. Davies held pocket tens against the threes of Murad Akhundov and the pocket aces of Tom-Aksel Bedell, but a ten on the turn gave Davies the win and he sent them both to the rail.

This gave him a top-five stack at the final three tables, and after the winner of the first EPT Barcelona €10,000 High Roller Michael Soyza (23rd - €35,350) was eliminated, Davies became the first player over the two million chip mark. The Americans pocket queens held against Lucas Reeves who held ace-king.

Play finished for the day just two eliminations away from another redraw. Each player is guaranteed €39,600 when play resumes tomorrow at 12:30pm. Stay tuned to PokerNews as we play down to a winner.

Double Elimination for Davies; Bedell's Aces Cracked

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Tom-Aksel Bedell
Tom-Aksel Bedell

Tom-Aksell Bedell has spent the last several levels blinding out until he was all in automatically for 13,000 from the big blind.

Seth Davies limped and Murad Akhundov then three-bet all in. Davies called putting two players at risk.

Davies showed {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} while Akhundov showed {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Bedell made a big show of revealing his cards one at a time; firsrt the {a-Clubs} and then the {a-Spades}! He had woken up with aces.

The flop {2-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades} was looking good for Bedell, but the {10-Hearts} turn on the river turned the tables and the {k-Clubs} sealed the double elimination with Davies moving up to 1,200,000.

Farrell Cracks Aces AND Kings; Eliminates Diaz

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Niall Farrell Jack Sinclair
Niall Farrell Jack Sinclair

There was a three-way all in between Guillaume Diaz, Ivan Luca and Niall Farrell with Luca the big stack and Diaz the short stack.

Niall Farrell: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Ivan Luca: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Guillaume Diaz: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Diaz was in a good spot to triple up, but the {5-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop gave Farrell a flush draw. The turn {10-Clubs} gave him even more outs, with any king completing his straight.

The river {4-Diamonds} completed his flush, however, eliminating Diaz and doubling through Luca.

"It's alright guys," he said, "I'm back to being the best in the world again."

"One day I'll get you," said Diaz as he left the table.

"I'm so fucking lucky!" said Farrell in response.

Pollak Eliminated by Soyza

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Benjamin Pollak
Benjamin Pollak

Benjamin Pollak has tasted success this trip; cashing in the €100k Super High Roller and winning the €50k Single-Day High Roller, and he has added a cash here in the final €10k of the trip.

Michael Soyza opened to 22,000 from the cutoff and Pollak defended his big blind.

Pollak check-called 15,000 on the {3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop and the turn was a {j-}. Pollak checked again and Soyza bet 30,000. Pollak then check-raised all in for 90,000 and Soyza called.

Benjamin Pollak: {6-}{7-}
Michael Soyza: {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Pollak had been caught bluffing and needed a five and only a five to save him on the river. The {k-Diamonds} only helped Soyza, and Pollak was eliminated.
