Martini Claims the Chip Lead

Level 31 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Julien Martini
Julien Martini

Julien Martini opened with a raise on the button to 330,000. In the big blind, Arni Gunnarsson splashed in some chips that totalled somewhere in the 400k range, which was ruled as a minraise to 500,000. Martini called in position.

On the {Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop, Gunnarsson bet 675,000 and Martini called. The turn brought the {7-Diamonds} and the man from Iceland opted for a smaller sized bet, this time worth 660,000. Martini came along with a swift call.

The river was the {A-Diamonds} and Gunnarsson now bet 1,300,000. He leaned back after the bet, removed his glasses and crossed his arms. Martini took nearly two minutes before shoving all in for 6,820,000, and Gunnarsson snap-called it off.

Julien Martini: {J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Arni Gunnarsson: {A-}{Q-}

Martini's backdoor flush bested Gunnarsson's top two pair and the Frenchman soared to 17,500,000.
