Guerrero vs Ferreira

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Jimmy Guerrero opened from the hijack and Jean Ferreira three-bet to 115,000 from the small blind. Guerrero called and as the dealer was scooping in the pot, Ferreira clarified that he had announced 155,000.

However, he had put out exactly 115,000 and Guerrero had quickly called. The floor was called and the bet of 115,000 stood.

The flop was {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Ferreira bet 90,000. Guerrero let his shot clock run all the way down before folding.

"I thought it was weird," said Guerrero, "But you put out 115,000. You need to be more careful."

A short while later, Ferreira sent Guerrero to the rail to move up to around 1.6 million in chips.

Timur Khamidullin raised to 40,000 from the hijack and Pablo Melogno three-bet to to 75,000 from the cutoff. Khamidullin stuck around with a call.

Players saw a flop of {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades} that was checked through to the {q-Clubs} turn and to the {5-Spades} river. Khamidullin checked once more and Melogno fired 170,000. Khamidullin took a minute of reflection then made the call. Melogno tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for a pair of kings and Khamidullin tossed his cards in the muck.

Keating Doubles Through Kanit

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Alex Keating
Alex Keating

Mustapha Kanit opened to 40,000 from under the gun and Alex Keating shoved all in for 278,000 in the hijack. The action was back on Kanit who asked for a count before making the call.

Alex Keating: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Mustapha Kanit: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

It was a coin flip and Keating took the lead on the {k-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop. The {7-Hearts} on the turn nor the {a-Clubs} on the river could help Kanit and he sent a double up to Keating.

Michael “mczhang” Zhang’s Journey from £15 Buy-ins to £100Ks

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Michael Zhang
Michael Zhang

It’s not always easy to tell just how far a poker player has come in their career from scrolling through a Hendon Mob profile. Take the first cashes of Justin Bonomo, Isaac Haxton, and Steve O’Dwyer for example. They all jumped straight into playing $10,000 buy-in live tournaments, hinting they were already doing pretty well online before opting to dabble in live poker.

That’s what makes Michael “mczhang” Zhang’s Hendon Mob so interesting. His first tournament cashes come from a string of £15 beginner’s tournaments at his local card room (Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn) throughout 2013, when he was just 18 years old. A year later he was still grinding anything from £25 freezeouts to £400 local Main Events.

“I used to sneak off to play £10 tournaments because my parents wouldn’t let me play,” Zhang tells PokerStars Blog, on break from the €10K High Roller at EPT Barcelona.
