It's Time for the €50,000 Single-Day High Roller

Casino Barcelona
Casino Barcelona

Just one day after the largest buy-in tournament wrapped up in the €100,000 Super High Roller, it is now time for the €50,000 Single-Day High Roller to take place. The next largest buy-in will be a turbo structure with plenty of action leading up to a winner by the day's end.

There have been a couple of smaller single-day high rollers taking place over the past week and many of the big names in the poker world have taken part. As well, even some celebrities have made their way to Casino Barcelona for the 2019 PokerStars EPT Barcelona including Gerard Pique and Arturo Vidal who are both stars on FC Barcelona.

In last year's edition, there were a total of 54 entries that took to the felt with 15 of them being re-entries. Benjamin Pollak came out on top after topping his countryman Jean-Noel Thorel for a first-place prize of €979,000. There will be an unlimited number of re-entries to the players today and that could spur even more action and create an even larger prizepool.

The cards will go in the air at approximately 12:30 pm local time with each player receiving a starting stack of 100,000 chips. The blinds will begin at 500/1,000 with a big blind ante of 1,000 and the levels will be 30 minutes in length. There will be a 20-minute break after every four levels and a 75-minute dinner break after level 12. Late registration will remain open until the start of level 9. As with all high-rollers, a 30-second shot clock will be in play from the start with each player receiving six 30-second time banks.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to bring you all of the up-to-date action from the start until a winner is crowned.

Benjamin Pollak

Kristen Bicknell and Benjamin Pollak were heads-up in a hand with around 26,000 in the middle. The board read {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Bicknell led out for 12,000 in middle position. Pollak shoved all in for 39,500 in the hijack and Bicknell thought for a minute before making the call.

Kristen Bicknell: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Benjamin Pollak: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

Bicknell held two overs to the board along with a flush draw but was in rough shape against the pocket aces of Pollak. However, the {5-Hearts} on the river improved Bicknell to a flush and eliminated Pollak.

Greenwood Coolers Thorel, Bicknell Eliminated

Level 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Kristen Bicknell
Kristen Bicknell

Kristen Bicknell was all in but had a chance to quadruple her short stack with a little over 40,000 in the main pot. There was also a side pot of 60,000 up for grabs and three players were still alive in the hand.

The board read {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Jean-Noel Thorel checked from the big blind. Sam Greenwood moved all in for 99,000 in the hijack and Daniel Dvoress tank-folded in the cutoff. Thorel quickly called and Greenwood turned over {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for a full house. Thorel could only muster {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a flush while Bicknell's {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} sent her to the rail.

Greenwood Calling the Shots

Level 10 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Luc Greenwood
Luc Greenwood

Just moments after busting Mikalai Vaskaboinikau, Luc Greenwood told Danny Tang that he was next. In the very next hand, Tang raised it up in early position and Greenwood three-bet to 45,000. The action folded back to Tang who shipped all in and was met with a snap-call from Greenwood.

"You jinxed me," Tang said before the cards were tabled.

Luc Greenwood: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Danny Tang: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The flop of {q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs} provided a sweat for both players as Greenwood hit a set of queens and Tang held the only flush draw. The {9-Hearts} on the turn and the {9-Spades} on the river only improved Greenwood to a full house to eliminate Tang and send Greenwood over 1,000,000 chips.
