Break With 62 Remaining

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

In the last hand of the level, Jose Gonzales took revenge against Saman Nakhjavani and doubled with a set of aces to jump above the average. Right after, the players were sent into a 20-minute break.

Three-Way Chop With an Ace

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Jean-René Fontaine was a big stack not long ago, but he suddenly ended up all in for fewer than half the average with Denis Timofeev at risk for even less and big stack Baptiste Carteau having both covered.

Denis Timofeev: {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Jean-René Fontaine: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Baptiste Carteau: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

"Eight one time," Timofeev said only to see the {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop provide a flush draw for Carteau. The {10-Clubs} turn and the {6-Spades} river ensured a three-way chop, however. Other big stacks on the table belong to Zakhar Babaev and Thomas Lilamand.

Gonzales Pays Off Nakhjavan

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

On a board of {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}, Jose Gonzales bet 17,500 and Saman Nakhjavani raised it up to 50,000. Gonzales made the call and mucked when he was shown the {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} for a straight by Nakhjavani.

Sukhorukov Jams Into Cohen; Romero on Half a Million

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Joining the action on the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} turn with 75,000 in the middle, Dmitrii Sukhorukov moved all in and Bruno Cohen had a decision for his last 55,000. Cohen carefully counted his stack and eventually folded to forfeit a vital pot for his stack size.

One table over, James Romero sits behind a massive tower of chips and admitted "just playing really well" with a smile on the face. Romero has taken over the lead by some margin as the bubble for Day 1a is slowly but surely coming closer, only 67 players remain.

Chupin and Virzi Eliminated

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Afshin Taheri
Afshin Taheri

Valeriy Chupin jammed for the last three big blinds and change and he was called by Afshin Taheri in the big blind.

Chupin tabled the {a-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Taheri had two live cards in {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, which both showed up on the {q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop. Chupin got some hope with the {2-Clubs} turn, but the {3-Clubs} river was a blank.

One hand later, Alexandre Joa Pinto opened and then saw Andrea Virzi shove for 50,000. Taheri reshoved in the small blind and Pinto folded {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} face up.

Andrea Virzi: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Afshin Taheri: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

The first card in the window as the {10-Diamonds}, but the {q-Hearts} and {9-Spades} followed. Virzi had a gutshot, but the {4-Clubs} turn and {a-Spades} river were of no help to see a player depart from the table in consecutive hands.

Other notable stacks on the table belong to Parham Ahoor, Julien Martini and Vladyslav Pohribnyi.

Weiss and Zouiten Eliminated by Yokosawa

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Fred Weiss, Masato Yokosawa
Fred Weiss, Masato Yokosawa

Fred Weiss open-shoved for around 50,000 and Masato Yokosawa did so from one seat over for more. Fouad Zouiten called for the last 28,000 and the big blind reluctantly folded.

Fouad Zouiten: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Fred Weiss: {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Masato Yokosawa: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The board came {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and the double knockout was confirmed.
