Ferrah Doubles Through Fontaine

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

It was a flip for Meddi Ferrah, who ended up all in for 42,500 with {3-Hearts}{3-Spades} against the {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} of EPT National Barcelona champion Jean-René Fontaine. Ferrah dodged a lot of outs on a {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Spades}{9-Clubs} board to remain in contention.

Lin Doubles Through Reard

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Alexandre Reard
Alexandre Reard

Xia Lin jammed for just shy of the starting stack and Alexandre Reard called with a near identical stack out of the big blind.

Xia Lin: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Alexandre Reard: {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The {a-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop gave Lin a commanding lead, and the {3-Spades} turn guaranteed his double, which made the {9-Clubs} river a formality. Reard had exactly one 500 chip left and disappeared the very next hand.

Van Dollen Doubles Through Albanese

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Mario Albanese opened to 6,500 first to act and Christian Van Dollen got his last 49,000 in from the button. Albanese reluctantly called and found himself trailing with {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} versus {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. The board came {10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and the kicker played to reduce Albanese's stack to 6,500. He doubled with ace-jack versus tens the next hand and still has a chip and a chair.

Lew's Day is Done

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Randy Lew
Randy Lew

Diego Furlanetto raised the button to 7,000 and Randy Lew jammed for 58,000 in the big blind. Furlanetto ended up in the think tank and the clock was called on him by Sergey Baburin. Tournament staff arrived and Furlanetto called within the allocated 30 seconds of additional time.

Randy Lew: {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Diego Furlanetto: {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

Lew had been running well with treys on this table when he cracked a superior pocket pair. This time, however, the board came {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Clubs}{2-Spades} and the American was left drawing dead on the turn already.

Moreira De Melo No More

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Fatima Moreira De Melo
Fatima Moreira De Melo

The third PokerStars ambassador on Day 1a has also been eliminated as Fatima Moreira De Melo was spotted on her way out of the tournament area, following a mere few meters behind Erwann Pecheux.

Fouad Zouiten jammed out of the big blind for 49,000 and Chen An Lin, who had limped the small blind, folded with the words "I almost called, thought my queen-high was good." Zouiten flashed the {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and asked "why didn't you call? I need double of this."

Break With 108 Remaining

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

The next scheduled break has seen a field of 353 entries whittled down to just 108 hopefuls and they have been sent into a 20-minute break. During that time, the T-100 chips will be raced off with fewer than one third of the field in contention.

Naidoo Doubles Through Baralli

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Surendra Naidoo had been a big stack not long ago and suddenly lost more than half of his stack. However, he then got it in with a set against the nut straight of Girgio Baralli on the {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} turn with a shot at returning to a big stack once more.

Surendra Naidoo: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Giorgio Baralli: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Naido paired up on the {10-Clubs} river and Baralli was cursing in Italian. He had two big blinds left over and lost those the very next hand. Also out: Marcello Miniucchi, Pierre Merlin, Paul Guichard and Nicola D'Anselmo.
