Shylkou Sends Candin to the Rail

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Serge Candin ended up all in and at risk with {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} against the {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} of Stanislau Shylkou on a {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop. Shylkou immediately turned a flush with the {a-Diamonds} as next community card and Candin was left drawing dead, the {10-Spades} river a formality.

Lew Two-Outers Tedeschi; Lin Gone

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Paul-Francois Tedeschi
Paul-Francois Tedeschi

Randy Lew opened to 5,000 and Paul-francois Tedeschi in the big blind three-bet to 27,000 with 3,000 behind. Lew gave it some thought and moved all in, Tedeschi called it off.

Paul-Francois Tedeschi: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Randy Lew: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

Nothing changed on the {j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop and Tedeschi had running hearts covered. However, the {3-Spades} turn improved Lew to a set and the {2-Spades} river was a blank.

At almost the same time, PokerStars ambassador Celina Lin vanished from a different table.

Barer Left Short After Clash With Boudaouine

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Ami Barer
Ami Barer

Preflop and on the {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop, plenty of chips went in between Fahd Boudaouine and Ami Barer, and the former then ended up all in and at risk for 57,200 on the {7-Spades} turn.

Fahd Boudaouine: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Ami Barer: {10-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The {q-Spades} followed on the river and Barer was left with a mountain to climb.

James Romero
James Romero

With 26,000 in the middle and the flop showing {3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}, Joey Weissman bet 9,500 and James Romero moved all in for around 65,000. Weissman gave it some consideration and folded {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} face up and Romero raked in the pot.

Weissman Rising

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Karim Rebei had doubled yet another opponent and was eliminated soon after while Joey Weissman, who had doubled for 10 big blinds through Rebei with ace-eight versus queen-nine before the dinner break, has jumped to an above-average stack on the same table.

Also no longer in contention on Day 1a with 144 players remaining are Bleron Maliqi, Ryan Tosoc, Adrian Smith and Sonny Franco.

Double Knockout with Quads for Nakhjavani

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Jose Astima
Jose Astima

Jose Astima was spotted leaving his table while a few players from nearby gathered to see what had happened, as another player also hit the rail in William Saad. According to the rail, Saman Nakhjavani, who had his {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} tabled, had looked up the ace-king of Astima and the pocket nines of Saad and flopped a set, turned quads to leave both drawing dead.

Saad even spiked a nine on the river for a full house to add further salt to his misery.

Diaz Crusing Along

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Defending champion Guillaume Diaz entered in the final level of late registration and has since spun up a decent stack of two times the average. That's nothing yet compared to the lead of Julien Martini, but Diaz is off to a good start once more.

Darie Vlad, Kevin Barden and Pierre Calamusa are among those that have busted recently.
