Who Will Be Victorious in the €10,000 EPT High Roller?

Masato Yokosawa
Masato Yokosawa

The final day of the 2019 PokerStars EPT Prague festival is about to get underway as the 2019 poker calendar begins to close out its season before the holidays. There will be 17 players returning to their seats in the €10,000 EPT High Roller but only one will come out on top in this 255-entry tournament.

After two days and 20 levels of poker, Simon Lofberg is currently leading the way with an impressive stack of 2,205,000 chips. Lofberg was the only player to crack the 2 million chip mark on Day 2 but his work isn't finished yet. Lofberg is in search of his largest career live tournament score but the competition will be tough when the cards go back in the air. Masato Yokosawa (1,685,000), George Wolff (1,115,000), and Yunye Lu (1,085,000) are the only other players with a seven-figure chip count.

There are plenty of others to keep an eye on moving forward including Gianluca Speranza (720,000), Matthias Eibinger (605,000), Ludovic Geilich (675,000), and Rainer Kempe (505,000). Sam Greenwood, Daniel Dvoress, and Tsugunari Toma are on the short stacks but they each have plenty of high-roller experience so don't count them out either.

The action is scheduled to get underway at 12:30 p.m. local time with just one elimination away from breaking to two tables. The blinds will resume on level 21 at 10,000/20,000 and a 20,000 big blind ante. The levels will remain at 60 minutes throughout for the time being with a 20-minute break after every two levels. Each player will receive additional time extensions to begin the day as well as at the final table.

There is still plenty of money up for grabs as the day unfolds with the remaining players having already locked up €32,900. There will be significant pay jumps throughout the day with the winner taking home a cool €523,120.

Follow along with the PokerNews live reporting team to find out who will come out on top of this star-studded field and become the champion.

Thi Nguyen Eliminated in 17th Place (€32,900)

Thi Nguyen was down to just 200,000 following a hand with Bhavin Khatri. The two were back it again when Nguyen shoved all in and Khatri called on the button.

Bhavin Khatri: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Thi Nguyen: {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs} to give Nguyen a pair of tens but the {q-Hearts} on the turn gave Khatri a pair of queens. The river was the {7-Clubs} and Nguyen was eliminated, bringing the field down to just two tables.

Sam Greenwood Eliminated in 16th Place (€32,900)

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

Ludovic Geilich was under the gun and raised to 45,000, prompting action to fold around to Sam Greenwood in the big blind. Greenwood looked down at his hand and then looked over to the other table. He used up his shot clock and tossed in an extension, picking up the rest of his cards and fanning them out to count them. He proceeded to use every extension as play continued on the adjacent table and then went all in for his last few big blinds once he could wait no longer. Geilich quickly called.

Sam Greenwood: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
Ludovic Geilich: {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

"I have a really good hand," said Greenwood as he turned over his hand, happy that he had not been dealt two rags in the big blind with such a short stack. However, he was still behind and his odds only deteriorated from there as the flop came {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. He said that maybe a club would come on the turn, but instead it fell {3-Spades} to give Geilich aces up and leave Greenwood drawing dead.

Geilich's hand was tabled barely in front of him in the two-seat so he took it and tossed it a little further out towards the middle of the table as the river fell {4-Hearts} to complete the runout with his two pair being displayed as the best hand, ending Greenwood's run at a second High Roller title for the series in the process.

Arsenii Karmatckii Eliminated in 15th Place (€36,610)

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Arsenii Karmatckii
Arsenii Karmatckii

Arsenii Karmatckii saw action folded to him in the cutoff and limped in. Simon Lofberg was on the button and pumped it up to 75,000 and Karmatckii reraised all in once action got back to him. Lofberg went into the tank and eventually settled on a call, slamming a chip down on the felt to signify the action.

Arsenii Karmatckii: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Simon Lofberg: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Karmatckii looked poised for a double until the flop came {q-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}, putting his top pair, top kicker firmly behind Lofberg's top two pair. He would need to find an ace or a ten to stay alive and would not do so as the turn {9-Spades} and river {4-Spades} completed the runout, resulting in his departure from the tournament in 15th place.

On a {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}{j-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} board Simon Pedersen bet 85,000 from under the gun and Kemal Aslan called on the button.

The river was the {7-Clubs} and Pedersen announced all in. Aslan used a time extension before calling with {k-Spades}{q-Spades} for a pair of kings.

Pedersen turned over {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for the nut straight and Aslan was eliminated.

George Wolff raised to 50,000 from under the gun and Fahredin Mustafov called from the big blind. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and both players checked to the {3-Diamonds} on the turn.

Mustafov led out with a bet of 55,000 and Wolff called to see the {7-Clubs} on the river. Mustafov jammed all in for 220,000 and Wolff pondered for a moment before making the call. Mustafov showed {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} for a missed straight and flush draw while Wolff held {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the only pair.

Daniel Dvoress Eliminated in 12th Place (€40,320)

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Daniel Dvoress
Daniel Dvoress

Ludovic Geilich raised to 175,000 under the gun to leave him with 60,000 behind and Daniel Dvoress called, leaving himself 25,000 behind. Action made its way around to Masato Yokosawa in the big blind and he announced he was all in. Geilich and Dvoress both called for a three-way all-in situation.

Daniel Dvoress: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Ludovic Geilich: {q-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Masato Yokosawa: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Dvoress was ahead for the time being but that changed when the flop came {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, giving both other players a pair and putting Yokosawa out in front in position for a double knockout. However, the turn {10-Clubs} gave Geilich trips and the river {8-Hearts} completed the runout to give him the near triple, knocking out Dvoress along the way.

"Blessed," said somebody on the rail. "Must be nice."

Geilich responded as he stacked his chips, "Definitely not blessed, that's for sure." Nonetheless, he was able to stay alive as Dvoress exited the tournament in 12th place.

Bhavin Khatri moved all in from the small blind for 590,000. Matthias EIbinger made a big show of checking his first card in the big blind which was the {a-Hearts}. He then further scrutinised his second card and asked for a count. He eventually called.

Bhavin Khatri: {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Matthias Eibinger: {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

There was a seven on the {10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop and a {6-Spades} on the turn offered additional straight outs, but the {4-Hearts} river and Khatri was eliminated.

Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

Tsugunari Toma raised to 70,000 from under the gun and Ludovic Geilich defended from the big blind. The flop fell {q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Geilich checked to Toma who continued for 125,000. Geilich shipped all in for 615,000 and Toma asked for a count before making the call.

Tsugunari Toma: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Ludovic Geilich: {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Both players flopped top pair but Toma was out front with his kicker. The {2-Clubs} on the turn and the {3-Spades} on the river changed nothing and Geilich was eliminated in 10th place.

The final nine players will now gather at one table and the action will resume after a quick five-minute break.

Rainer Kempe counted his stack in front of him before shipping all in for around 600,000 in the hijack. George Wolff peeked back at his cards in the small blind before putting in the last of his 460,000 chips.

Rainer Kempe: {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
George Wolff: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Wolff was in a good position for a double up but the flop of {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs} gave Kempe a pair of aces and the lead. The turn was the {7-Hearts} and the river was the {4-Clubs} to send Wolff home in ninth place.
