Chin Wei Lim - 2019 PokerStars EPT Prague €25,000 Single-Day High Roller I Winner

After a day off from the high roller tournaments at the 2019 Pokerstars EPT Prague, it is now time for another €25,000 Single-Day High Roller. The largest event before the Christmas break is starting to wind down but there is still plenty of money to be won over the next few days.

The previous editions of this tournament earlier this week were won by Jean-Noel Thorel and Chin Wei Lim, who are both expected to be back in the field chasing another title. Some other strong performances throughout the week belong to Adrian Mateos and Ben Heath who have cashed in multiple events. Many players will still be looking for their first cash and possibly a trip-saver before the festival comes to an end.

The action is scheduled to get underway at 12:30 p.m. local time but a slight delay should be expected to allow for enough players to register before the cards go in the air. Similar to the other single-day tournaments, players will begin with a starting stack of 100,000 chips with the blinds beginning at 500/1,000 and a 1,000 big blind ante.

The levels will be 30 minutes in length with a 15-minute break after levels 4 and 7. There will be a 60-minute dinner break scheduled for after level 10. There is an unlimited re-entry option available and the late registration period will remain open for ten levels. As with most high-roller events, there will be a 30-second shot clock in play and each player will start with six 30-second time extensions.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back to bring you all of the coverage throughout the day on route to another champion being crowned.

Matthias Eibinger
Matthias Eibinger

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{q-Spades}, Matthias Eibinger and Peter Turmezey were heads-up in the pot. With around 60,000 in the middle already, Eibinger checked to Turmezey who shoved all in. Eibinger called off his stack of around 50,000 and was in big trouble.

Turmezey flipped over {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} while Eibinger had smalled two pair with {a-Spades}{4-Spades}. The river was the {8-Spades} and Eibinger was the first player sent to the rail.

Ihar Soika
Ihar Soika

The board read {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} with Ihar Soika and Daniel Dvoress heads-up in a pot. Soika checked from middle position and Dvoress announced a bet of 28,000 from the cutoff. Soika called and the {q-Clubs} completed the board.

Soika checked again and Dvoress slid out a stack of around 50,000, enough to put Soika to the test for his remaining 35,000 chips. After using a time extension, Soika made the call and flipped over {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for two pair. Dvoress held {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} for a better two pair and Soika was eliminated.

Joris Ruijs opened to 5,000 in middle position and Tsugunari Toma three-bet to 14,000 on his left. The action was back on Ruijs who shipped all in and Toma called off his stack off around 45,000.

Joris Ruijs: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Tsugunari Toma: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The flop of {9-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} left Toma in the lead with his pocket jacks. The {4-Diamonds} on the turn gave Ruijs a straight draw and the {5-Spades} on the river completed his straight to eliminate Toma.

Gieles Picks Off Plesuv for It All

Level 5 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Luuk Gieles
Luuk Gieles

There was around 30,000 in the middle on a board of {2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{j-Hearts} with heads-up action between Pavel Plesuv in the big blind and Luuk Gieles, who was in early position. Plesuv had checked and was facing a bet of 16,500 from Gieles with the clock ticking down on his time bank. He threw in an extension and followed up with a check-raise to 41,500, which Gieles confirmed the amount before making the call.

The river came {10-Diamonds} and Plesuv thought for a few moments before sliding the rest of his chips forward. Gieles immediately asked for a count and when the total of 53,000 was announced, he called just as quickly.

Plesuv tabled {4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a busted gutshot and Gieles quickly turned over {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}, scoring the pot and the knockout with his kings up to take him over 300,000.

Pedersen Makes "Nice Call" To Double

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Simon Pedersen
Simon Pedersen

There was a pile of chips in the middle totaling at least 100,000 with a board of {9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{2-Hearts} with action heads up between Simon Pedersen, who was under the gun, and Jun Obara in the hijack. Pedersen had checked and Obara had put Pedersen all in for effectively what was around a pot-sized bet.

Pedersen went into the tank, using two time extensions. The second extension ran out and a third may have been enacted as Pedersen decided to announce a call.

"Nice call," said Obara, tabling {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Pedersen showed {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

Pedersen found himself having correctly called with top pair and needed to fade only the three remaining aces in the deck to stay alive. He would do just that on the river {6-Diamonds}, locking up the double as a result. His stack was totaled to be 108,500 and Obara sent the proper amount his way, tapping the felt and looking Pedersen's way in a congratulatory fashion.

Chin Wei Lim
Chin Wei Lim

Chin Wei Lim returned to a stack of just 15 big blinds and he shoved all in for 62,000 from under the gun. Steve O'Dwyer re-shoved from the small blind and the big blind quickly folded.

Chin Wei Lim: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Steve O'Dwyer: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Lim flopped a set of sixes for the lead. The {8-Hearts} on the turn gave O'Dwyer a straight draw but the {k-Spades} on the river secured a double up for Lim.

Thorel Eliminated for the Final Time?

Level 10 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Jean-Noel Thorel
Jean-Noel Thorel

Jean-Noel Thorel was on his fourth bullet of the tournament and was sitting on a stack of 65,000. Timothy Adams raised to 10,000 from under the gun and Thorel moved all in on the button. Adams asked for a count and then made the call.

Timothy Adams: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Jean-Noel Thorel: {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

The flop of {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{2-Clubs} gave Adams a few more outs and the {10-Diamonds} on the turn made him a straight. Thorel was left drawing dead to the {9-Clubs} on the river and he said bye to his fellow tablemates before exiting the tournament area.

If January is a time for resolutions, then December is a time for reflection.

There’s a lot for British pro Ben Heath to reflect on from 2019. He won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet (in a $50K High Roller, no less) for $1.48 million, and followed up that victory a month or so later with a third-place finish in a £100K buy-in Triton event for £1.35 million.

Simon Pedersen
Simon Pedersen

A completed board of {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts} was spread across the table with Steve O'Dwyer and Simon Pedersen heads-up in a pot. Pedersen led out for 60,000 into a pot of just under 100,000 and O'Dwyer used up a time extension before shoving all in.

Pedersen was put to the test for his stack of around 265,000 and he eventually made the call. O'Dwyer turned over {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a rivered flush while Pedersen was forced to show his {j-Spades}{10-Spades}.
