Ukraine's Andriy Lyubovetskiy Leads Final 23 Players After Day 2 of €10,300 High Roller

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Andriy Lyubovetskiy

Day 2 of the €10,300 High Roller was a tumultuous one with tons of EPT poker action to keep any poker fan satisfied. The day began with 246 players remaining from Day 1 and 25 late entries joined in at the start of the day to create a total number of entries of 271 which generated a prizepool of €2,628,700.

After ten levels of play, the field was cut all the way down to 23 players who were left standing as the dust settled. Leading the way at the end was Andriy Lyubovetskiy of Ukraine who bagged the chip lead with 1,272,000. He is the winner of one EPT title already in his career from 2017 and has nearly a million in career earnings. He gained a large amount of chips in the final few levels of the day to take his chip stack to the top of the leaderboard

Right on his tail in second place in chips was none other than Adrian Mateos who finished just a smidgeon behind with 1,265,000. Mateos is of course one of the most successful poker players in the world and has four EPT titles amongst his multiple career accolades. Mateos won several big hands late in the day, including one where he knocked out Dominik Nitsche with kings over queens.

After the top two stacks there is a drop off to third where Conor Beresford sits with 958,000. Beresford was on the right and wrong end of some coolers at the end of the day but was able to make enough profit off of them to gather an impressive stack.

Mike Watson (883,000) and Renan Bruschi (742,000) rounded out the top five stacks at the end of the day.

Several other well known players make up the final 23, including Niall Farrell who bagged a middling mount of 512,000 and Kenny Hallaert who was on the shorter end with 333,000.

The late entries created many short stacks in play to start the day and caused a lot of action from the beginning. The eliminations would go steadily all day as several players hit the rail such as; Ole Schemion, Martin Kabrhel and start of day big stack Thi Xoa Nguyen.

As expected, play would slow down as the large bubble approached as the players had to be warned to not tank as early as five players off the bubble. But a series of big coolers burst the bubble a bit more quickly than expected, with the final one being when Georgios Karakousis was eliminated as the bubble boy when his pocket kings were cracked by a turned set of sevens. After the money was reached, the eliminations came fast as the field was trimmed nearly in half in the span of two levels to make for the final surviving 23, all of whom will be gunning of the top prize of €527,070.

Day 3 will begin at 12:30 local time at Level 21 with blinds at 8,000/16,000 and a 16,000 big blind ante.

PokerNews will have all the action as this exciting event reaches its zenith.

Mateos Coolers Nitsche

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

From early position, Adrian Mateos raised, Dominik Nitsche moved all in from the small blind and Mateos snap-called.

Dominik Nitsche {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Adrian Mateos: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

It was a cooler for Nitsche and the board would not save him as it ran out {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{a-Spades}{10-Hearts} and just like Mateos had over a million in chips.

Elsewhere, Alexander Tkachev, Alexander Glogar and Henrik Hecklen were eliminated.

Karakousis Eliminated on the Bubble by Cooler

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Georgios Karakousis
Georgios Karakousis

Georgios Karakousis was once chip leader of the tournament, but he has now the unfortunate distinction of being the bubble boy.

Simon Lofberg opened to 20,000 in the cutoff, which was called on the button by Alexander Ivarsson. Karakousis then moved all in for 85,000 from the big blind. Lofberg folded, but Ivarsson called.

Georgios Karakousis: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Alexander Ivarsson: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}

Karakousis was primed to survive through the {5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} flop, but the {7-Hearts} on the turn brought Karakousis to within one card of a heartbreaking bubble finish.

The {4-Diamonds} fell on the river, and the demise of Karikousis from chip leader to bubble boy was sadly completed.

The remaining 39 players are now all in the money and guaranteed to take home at least €18,140

Ivarsson Hero Calls Correctly to Survive on the Bubble

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Alexander Ivarsson
Alexander Ivarsson

On a flop of {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Hearts}, Alexander Ivarsson checked to Vlad Darie in the cutoff. Darie bet 11,000 and Ivarsson called.

The turn brought the {k-Hearts} and again Ivarsson checked. Darie asked Ivarsson how much he had behind, but Ivarsson remained stoic. The shot clock ran out on Darie who had no time banks remaining, but the floor was called because Darie wanted clarification of the ruling because he took time waiting for a replay from Ivarsson. The ruling was that Darie must check.

So the duo was off to the river of the {4-Diamonds} and once more Ivarsson checked. This time, Darie slid forward a tower of T-5,000 chips that would cover Ivarsson's remaining 92,000 chips.

Ivarsson used 3 minutes of time bank chips before flicking in a chip to call with his tournament on the line.

Darie showed {5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} for a stone bluff.

Ivarsson showed {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts} for just second pair, but it was good.

Darie is down to under 400,000 while Ivarsson's stack is back over 200,000 and healthy as the bubble continues.

Big Stacks Play Chicken on the Bubble

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

With many short stacks clinging to survival on the bubble, big stack holders Juan Pardo and Laurynas Levinskas decided to play a bit of chicken preflop.

Pardo opened under the gun to 20,000 and was three-bet on the big blind to 90,000 by Levinskas. Pardo then clicked it back with a four-bet to 160,000.

With 475,000 behind, Levinskas opted to fold and preserve his stack, still shipping nearly 20% of his stack to Pardo.

Nagygyorgy Slayed by Set

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Tibor Nagygyorgy
Tibor Nagygyorgy

Action arrived on the turn as the board read {6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. From the hijack, Tibor Nagygyorgy bet 27,000. Tamas Adamszki raised to 80,000 on the button. Nagygyorgy called.

The river was the {7-Spades}. Adamszki moved all in to put Nagygyorgy to the test. He thought for a while before he called.

He immediately saw the bad news as Adamszki had the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flopped set while Nagygyorgy meekly tabled the {k-Spades}{q-Spades} and stood up as his elimination brought the field to the stone bubble where hand for hand play has begun.

Pardo's Stack Continues to Grow with Another Elimination

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

With about 80,000 in the pot and a turn board reading {2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, Badre Al Ghouch was put to the test by Juan Pardo for all of his remaining 90,000 chips.

Without any remaining time bank cards, Al Ghouch had only 30 seconds to make his decision. Before the clock hit zero, Al Ghouch called to see he was in deep trouble.

Badre Al Ghouch: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Juan Pardo: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Al Ghouch would need a ten on the river, but the {a-Hearts}fell instead to eliminate Al Ghouch from the tournament.

Huge Flip Leaves Nguyen on Fumes, Eliminated Soon After

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Thi Nguyen
Thi Nguyen

Juan Pardo opened to 8,000 in early position, and Badre Al Ghouch called on the button. Thi Xoa Nguyen then three-bet squeezed from the big blind for 36,000. Pardo four-bet all in for a stack of about 180,000 which was just covered by Nguyen.

Al Ghouch folded and Nguyen called.

Juan Pardo: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Thi Xoa Nguyen: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

A king in the window of the {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop brought Nguyen's participation in the tournament into jeopardy, and the {3-Clubs} turn and {4-Clubs} brought no help.

Nguyen was left with just 15,000 chips, and she was eliminated soon after in hugely disappointing fashion after starting the day with the third largest stack at the end of Day 1.

Set Over Set, Amiri vs Nguyen

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Ehsan Amiri
Ehsan Amiri

The flop read {3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. From early position, Thi Xoa Nguyen bet 8,000. Ehsan Amiri raised to 25,000 on her direct left. Nguyen took a time extension before she three-bet to 67,000. After a few moments Amiri four-bet jammed all in and Nguyen called instantly.

It was a set over set situation as Nguyen had the {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} but Amiri had the hammer with the {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}.

The turn was the {6-Hearts} and the river the {2-Clubs} to give the huge pot to Amiri. His stack was counted out to be 210,00 as Nguyen had to surrender a significant portion of her large stack.

Leonard Eliminated

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Patrick Leonard
Patrick Leonard

The daunting all-in triangle was sitting in front of Patrick Leonard with Martin Kabrhel and Ramon Colillas still building a side pot on a turn board of {6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

Kabrhel bet 35,000 from the big blind and was called by Colillas in late position. On the {3-Spades} river, both players checked and everyone revealed their cards.

Patrick Leonard: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Martin Kabrhel: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Ramon Colillas: {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

"I tried", said Kabrhel as he mucked his ace-high, which along with Leonard's identical ace-high fell to Colillas' pair of eights to drag both the main and side pots.
