Day 1b Highlights

Day 1b was the largest of the two opening flights, and it saw the most star power as other marquee high roller events wrapped up throughout King’s Casino Prague. Players like Brewer, Nick Petrangelo, Juan Pardo, Saar Wilf, and Adrian Mateos made their way into the second flight of the tournament after spending the early parts of the week batting it out in the higher buy-ins. Petrangelo failed to find a bag on Day 1b, but Mateos, Pardo, Wilf, and Brewer will return for Saturday's restart. Pardo found his way into the top three Day 1b chip counts after bagging 225,000.

Later in the evening, Jamie Flynn scored back-to-back knockouts to help the Irishman find a bag for Day 2. Georges Hanna also had a great Day 1b, bagging 189,100 after several crucial opportunities to win big pots and set the pace.

Elsewhere, 2015 EPT Malta Main Event champion Niall Farrell made a run into the later stages of the evening, but his night came to an end when he picked up pocket kings and ran right into the pocket aces of Andreas Vlachos.

Day 2 Coming Up

Players will return for Day 2 in Level 11 with blinds at 800/1,600 with a 1,600 ante. Day 2 will play six 90-minute levels with a 75-minute dinner break after Level 14. Late registration remains open until the beginning of Day 2.

Cards go in the air for Day 2 at 12 p.m. local time and the tournament's featured table will stream live on a 30-minute delay beginning at 12:30 p.m. on PokerStars TV.

Be sure to keep it with the PokerNews team all weekend long for live updates from the floor of the €5,300 Main Event at EPT Prague.

Flynn Scores Back-to-Back Knockouts

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Jamie Flynn

Three ways to the {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop, Piotr Nurzynski checked in the small blind. Youssafi Khalil jammed in the big blind and Jamie Flynn called from an early position, while Nurzynski folded.

Youssafi Khalil: {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Jamie Flynn: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The {9-Clubs} turn and {3-Diamonds} river brought no help to Khalil and Flynn raked in the pot.

Soon after, a raise to 2,200 was called and Flynn then squeezed to 7,000. Initial raiser Alexander Meoni jammed and the cold-caller folded while Flynn snap-called.

Alexander Meoni: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Jamie Flynn: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The premium pair held on the {q-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs} runout and Flynn notched up another knockout.

Brink Scores a Knockout

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Frederik Brink
Frederik Brink

Sergio Coutinho raised it up from under the gun and the action folded all the way to Frederik Brink in the big blind. The former EPT Madrid champion glanced at the stack of his table neighbour which appeared to be just over 8,000 and moved all-in for Coutinho to call.

Sergio Coutinho: {a-}{k-}
Frederik Brink: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

The pocket pair remained ahead throughout the {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop and the {2-Spades} turn. Brink then further improved to a full house on the {9-Diamonds} river and that spelled the end for Coutinho.

Nedelcu Eliminated by Malec

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Sebastian Malec
Sebastian Malec

A bigger pot was brewing on a table with two former EPT Main Event champions. More than 25,000 were in the middle already as the board showed {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and Sebastian Malec moved all-in with the covering stack from the small blind.

Narcis Nedelcu was in the tank and eventually made the call for the 24,100 he had behind. Malec turned over {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for a set of eights and the {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} of Nedelcu ended up second-best. Hossein Ensan can also be found at the same table as well and certainly has sweet memories of the Prague festival, as he claimed the title here back in 2015.

Ensan Chips Up Without Showdown

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
Hossein Ensan
Hossein Ensan

Towards the end of the fourth level, Hossein Ensan was involved in a middle-sized pot with Amit Ashkenazi. It was Ensan who checked the {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop and then called a bet worth 700 by Ashkenazi. The very same action repeated on the {a-Hearts} turn for another 2,000 and Ensan then checked the {5-Spades} on the river.

Ashkenazi fired a third barrel for 5,000 and Ensan reluctantly called. There would be no showdown as Ashkenazi surrendered and mucked his cards, allowing Ensan to win the pot without showdown.

Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

With 5,300 in the pot and {q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds} on the board, Juan Pardo checked and Luca Marchetti bet 3,000. After a few moments of consideration, Pardo tossed in chips to call and the river was {9-Spades}.

Pardo checked once more and Marchetti bet 8,500. Pardo considered his options before tossing his hand in the muck.

Despite giving away the big pot, Pardo has chipped up early in Day 1b.

Welcome to Day 1b of the €5,300 EPT Prague Main Event

Chips
Chips

The 2021 PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague €5,300 Main Event has been off to a blistering start with 418 entries, which surpassed the Day 1a field of the previous live edition of the popular flagship event in the Czech capital. However, a far bigger field is expected for Day 1b, which is set to kick off at noon local time in the King's Casino at the Hilton Hotel Prague.

Record-breaking fields in the €1,100 Eureka Main Event and €2,200 High Roller may very well indicate that the crown jewel of the festival will also result in an excellent turnout as well. The last EPT Prague Main Event reeled in a field of 1,154 entries and Mikalai Pobal was crowned the winner, becoming the second-ever two-time champion in EPT history. While Pobal hasn't been spotted during the series so far, other former winners such as Hossein Ensan, Kalidou Sow, Davidi Kitai, Jasper Meijer Van Putten, Piotr Nurzynski, and Ognyan Dimov are expected to take another shot at glory on Day 1b.

Jack Sinclair (317,900) and Sharon Sade (312,200) set the pace on Day 1a by increasing their starting stack more than ten fold and it remains to be seen if a new overall chip leader will be crowned on the second and final starting day.

All participants receive 30,000 in chips and will aim to make it all the way through the scheduled ten 60-minute levels. A total of two entries across both Day 1s and until the start of Day 2 are allowed for those who run out of chips. There will be a break every two levels and a 75-minute dinner break after the end of level six, while bagging and tagging takes place around midnight local time in Prague.

The very same day will also see the conclusion of the €50,000 Super High Roller and the €2,200 Eureka High Roller while another edition of the €25,000 Single-Day High Roller is scheduled to take place. All of these marquee events will be covered by the PokerNews live reporting team during an exciting day of live poker action from the Czech Republic.
