poker room

The 2022 PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague festival is winding down and will see €25,000 NL Hold'em III kicking off this evening at 6 p.m. local time.

The third €25,000 high roller of the series, the two-day event is expected to draw a small field of the world's most accomplished poker players, including Mike Watson, Adrian Mateos, Fedor Holz, Sam Greenwood and Steve O'Dwyer, all of whom have been active this stop.

Should he take a seat today, British pro Ben Heath will be after his third high roller title of the series after taking down the earlier €25,000 events back-to-back for €227,130 and €273,710. He isn't the only grinder looking for a third title this stop as Rodrigo Seiji took down €10,200 Mystery Bounty at the start of the trip and went on to win the €50,000 EPT Super High Roller.

Players will begin the tournament with a starting stack of 100,000 chips and blinds of 500/1,000/,1000 with levels lasting 30 minutes in duration and 15-minute breaks at various intervals. The event features a shot clock from the start and each new entry will receive four time bank cards.

Late registration in the single reentry event will remain open until tomorrow, at which point the prize pool and payouts will be determined. Approximately 15% of the field will be paid and the event will play down to a winner on Day 2 on Dec. 18.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team is on-site here at Hilton Prague to bring you updates on the high roller action. Check out the EPT Prague reporting hub in the meantime.

Mateos Shoves on the First Hand

Level 1 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

On the very first hand, Pascal Lefrancois opened to 2,500 from under the gun and Adrian Mateos three-bet to 8,000 in the cutoff. Lefrancois called and they went heads-up to a flop of {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}.

Lefrancois checked to Mateos who continued with a bet of 6,000. Lefrancois check-raised to 18,000 and Mateos just called. The {6-Diamonds} peeled off on the turn and Lefrancois checked again. Mateos tossed in a bet of 20,000 and Lefrancois called.

The river was the {5-Diamonds} and Lefrancois checked for the third time. Mateos jammed all in for 54,000 and Lefrancois opted to lay his hand down. With a couple of time banks being used already, the first alone took seven minutes to complete.

Kulev Scoops a Wild One

Level 1 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Alex Kulev
Alex Kulev

Juan Pardo raised to 2,500 in the hijack and was called by Alex Kulev on his left and Daniel Dvoress in the big blind. The flop came {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} which stirred on plenty of action so follow closely.

Kulev was the first to make a bet of 1,500. Dvoress called and Pardo check-raised to 8,000. Kulev just called and Dvoress re-raised to 23,000. Pardo called and Kulev came along as well.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Dvoress ripped all in. Pardo instantly folded and Kulev called off his stack of 55,000 just as quickly. Dvoress tabled {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and was drawing dead to the {5-Spades}{4-Spades} of Kulev. The insignificant {7-Clubs} hit the river and Dvoress passed over a double-up.

Dvoress Flops a Full House to Double Through Mateos

Level 3 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Daniel Dvoress
Daniel Dvoress

Daniel Dvoress was down to just 9,000 when he moved all in from under the gun and was called by Adrian Mateos on the button.

Daniel Dvoress: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Adrian Mateos: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Dvoress was in great shape to double up and the flop landed {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}, bringing the case nine to give him a full house before the board ran out {2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} to earn him the double.

"You're getting full houses now!" exclaimed Alex Kulev, who earlier doubled through Dvoress with a boat of his own.

"That's how it starts," Dvoress said after earning the short stack double.

Sternheimer Speeds Past Oosterbaan

Level 3 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Philip Sternheimer
Philip Sternheimer

Arnold Oosterbaan opened to 4,000 in the cutoff and Philip Sternheimer three-bet to 12,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Oosterbaan called to see a flop of {k-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

Oosterbaan checked to Sternheimer who continued with a bet of 7,500. Oosterbaan called and the {3-Diamonds} rolled off on the turn. Oosterbaan checked again and Sterneheimer put together a bet of 17,500. Oosterbaan finally relinquished his cards and Sternheimer collected the pot.

Pardo Picks Up Cowboys to Double Through Mateos

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

Adrian Mateos opened to 3,500 from early position and Ben Heath three-bet to 11,000 on the button. Juan Pardo then four-bet jammed his stack of 32,000 from the big blind and Mateos five-bet re-shoved to bring a fold from Heath.

Juan Pardo: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Adrian Mateos: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Pardo was in great shape to double up and stayed ahead on the {9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop and {6-Hearts} turn.

"On the river!" yelled Mateos before the dealer put down the innocuous {4-Hearts} to earn Pardo the double.

"I thought it was coming! On the river," Mateos laughed as he pushed 32,000 to the fellow Spaniard.

Heath Eliminated by Sternheimer

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Ben Heath
Ben Heath

Philip Sternheimer opened to 3,500 from the cutoff and Ben Heath three-bet to 15,000 from the small blind. Sternheimer called.

The flop landed {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and Heath continued for a small 3,500. Sternheimer raised to 19,000 and Heath called. Heath then checked on the {k-Diamonds} turn and Sternheimer checked back.

THe {j-Clubs} on the river completed the board and Heath checked again. Sternheimer bet 75,000 to put Heath all in for less and Heath snap-called. Sternheimer showed {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} for nines full of kings and Heath tossed his {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} to the dealer before leaving the tournament area.

Heath took down the two earlier €25,000 events this series but it won't be a three-peat unless he buys back in on a second bullet.

Kulev Sends Dvoress and Pardo Packing

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Daniel Dvoress shoved all in for his short stack of 13,500 and was called by Juan Pardo in the small blind. Alex Kulev re-raised the minimum to 25,500 in the big blind and Pardo called.

The flop came {j-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Pardo checked to Kulev who ripped all in. Pardo had a decision for his remaining 74,000 and burned through four of his time banks before making the call.

Daniel Dvoress: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Juan Pardo: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Alex Kulev: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Pardo was in the lead with his pocket nines and the {10-Clubs} on the turn took Dvoress out of the equation. The river was the {k-Hearts} and Kulev spiked a pair of kings to eliminate both players.

Kulev and Mateos Chop Up Lefrancois

Level 7 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Alex Kulev - Adrian Mateos
Alex Kulev - Adrian Mateos

Alex Kulev opened to 5,500 from the hijack and Adrian Mateos three-bet to 16,000 from the next seat. Pascal Lefrancois then four-bet jammed a stack of 110,000 from the big blind and Kulev re-shoved with the chip lead. Mateos snap-called with Lefrancois covered.

Pascal Lefrancois: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Adrian Mateos: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Alex Kulev: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

"That's good for you!" Kulev told Lefrancois, who was behind but the only player with immediate outs.

But he couldn't hit one of those two outs as the board ran out {8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{j-Spades} to mark the Canadian's elimination as Mateos and Kulev split the pot.

"You had him covered?" Kulev cheekily asked Mateos as he tried, to no avail, to get a bigger share.

Kulev Eliminates Oosterbaan; Registration Closed

Level 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Arnold Oosterbaan
Arnold Oosterbaan

Alex Kulev raised to 5,500 on the button and Arnold Oosterbaan three-bet to 21,000 from the big blind. Kulev four-bet shoved all in and Oosterbaan called off his stack of around 70,000.

Arnold Oosterbaan: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Alex Kulev: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came {q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs} and Kulev was still in front with his pair of tens. The {2-Diamonds} on the turn changed nothing and {3-Spades} on the river was not enough help for Oosterbaan.

With Oosterbaan choosing not to re-enter and just three players remaining, registration has been closed for the event and the final three players have locked up a spot in the money. They have chosen to play until the end of level 10 and re-evaluate their options at that point.
