Wakil Doubles With Aces

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Jamil Wakil
Jamil Wakil

Jamil Wakil raised and then faced a three-bet by Chan Sung Choi before he pushed all-in for 27,000 total. Choi asked for an exact count and then reluctantly called despite some confusion about the correct amount.

Jamil Wakil: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Chan Sung Choi: {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

The {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop and {9-Hearts} turn kept Wakil in the lead, though, Choi picked up some equity with a gutshot. However, the {7-Spades} river was no sucker punch as the 2023 PCA Main Event finalist doubled to remain in contention.

Sow Doubles Through Jacobson

Level 10 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Kalidou Sow
Kalidou Sow

In a preflop contest, Kalidou Sow was the player at risk for 34,300 and Martin Jacobson looked him up from one seat over to create a pot worth the current average in the tournament.

Kalidou Sow: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Martin Jacobson: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The {j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop gave Jacobson a draw to the superior straight on top but he bricked both the {9-Spades} turn and {8-Hearts} river, dropping to a mere six big blinds as a result.

"Lady Gaga" Knocked Out by Miegel

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Jakob Miegel raised to 2,500 and then called the shove by Ren Lin from one seat over for around 22,000.

Once Miegel exposed the {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, Lin grinned and leaned closer to hug his opponent. "Oh man ..." he said as he slowly rolled over the {a-Hearts} first. That was followed by the {10-Spades} and Lin was in need of help.

Things got worse with the {9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop and {q-Clubs} turn, leaving Lin with a mere two outs. No miracle came on the {9-Hearts} river and Lin was sent to the rail. Even though he was only at the table for a mere half an hour, all other players knew about his "Lady Gaga" hands, also known as cards containing a queen.

"Did you expect him to show better than a ace-jack there?" Julien Bolimowski asked and Miegel replied "I don't know ... he is a funny guy, we play a lot".

Brandi Doubles Through Rubiralta

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Gerard Rubiralta
Gerard Rubiralta

In a three-bet pot with 8,000 invested to the {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop, Gerard Rubiralta bet 4,000 out of the blinds and then called a raise to 12,000 by Iacopo Brandi. That led them to the {5-Diamonds} turn on which Rubiralta checked. Brandi jammed for 21,800 and Rubiralta vaulted out of his chair to check the amount before sigh-calling.

Iacopo Brandi: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Gerard Rubiralta: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

The {6-Clubs} river didn't matter anymore as Brandi had locked up the double already. Rubiralta shook his head over and over again after this costly misstep.

Michael Wang
Michael Wang

Virgile Turchi went all in from the button and got called by Michael Wang in the small blind. The cards were on their backs and a classic poker race ensued.

Virgile Turchi: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Michael Wang: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} to give Turchi a pair of aces. Wang got up to leave before realizing that he was still in the game, his stack reduced to less than one big blind. A couple of hands later, he busted the tournament.

Gicovanu Doubles Through Hari

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Marius-Alexandru Gicovanu
Marius-Alexandru Gicovanu

Adam Hari raised to 2,200 and Jonathan Abiteboul three-bet to 7,100. What followed was the four-bet shove by Marius Gicovanu for 29,100 on the button, which prompted the isolation shove by Hari with the biggest stack of the trio. Abiteboul immediately sighed and asked for a count but ended up folding.

Marius Gicovanu: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Adam Hari: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The classic race went to the Romanian on a board of {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} as Hari's stack was cut into more than half.

Julien Bolimowski
Julien Bolimowski

Sylvain Naets raised from middle position to 2,000, Julien Bolimowski called in the small blind, and Benjamin Chalot reraised to 6,400. Naets called and then Bolimowski reraised to 18,300. Chalot moved all in and Naets folded. Bolimowski stared across the table, but Chalot was looking down and twidling his chips, giving no signs or signals of his hand strength.

Bolimowski eventually folded and Chalot scooped a huge pot pre.

Ogita Eliminated by Chalot

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Benjamin Chalot
Benjamin Chalot

A three-bet was out in front of Daisuke Ogita as a T-5,000 chip had been placed before Benjamin Chalot then pushed forward his stack and announced all-in. Ogita called with the inferior stack and the cards were revealed.

Daisuke Ogita: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Benjamin Chalot: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop confirmed the lead by Chalot with the top pair and top kicker. Ogita had a straight draw and running clubs at his disposal but missed both of those options on the {4-Diamonds} turn and {3-Diamonds} river runout.

Veldhuis Gets Value From Lellouche

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Lex Veldhuis
Lex Veldhuis

Three ways to the {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop, Lex Veldhuis checked in the small blind and Marc Lellouche bet 3,400. Martin Jacobson folded and Veldhuis called. Both checked the {6-Hearts} on the turn and the {2-Clubs} fell on the river.

As Veldhuis was preparing a bet, Lellouche already had a single chip in his hand ready to snap-call. The bet worth 8,000 by Veldhuis followed and Lellouche paid it off to get shown the {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the nut flush by the PokerStars ambassador, as he exposed the {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

"Guess I am glad that no heart came on the river," Lellouche admitted.
