€25,000 No-Limit Hold'em III

Day 2 Started

Who Will Come Out on Top in €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em III?

Trophy
Trophy

There will be at least 13 players returning to their seats for Day 2 of the €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em III on the final day of the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris festival. It was a wild opening day to the event that saw ten levels play out and nearly 60% of the field eliminated thus far.

A total of 31 entries were recorded last night but late registration will remain open until 12 p.m. noon local time when the cards go back in the air. Leading the way heading into the final day of competition is none other than Adrian Mateos who will return to a stack of 757,000 chips. Mateos strolled in a few levels into the event and wasted no time spinning up a stack, sometimes in part due to a favorable river card.

He will be chased down by Dutchman Teun Mulder who already showed his dominance earlier this week by taking home a single-day €25,000 event. Mulder went on to eliminate every person on that final table in around 30 minutes to capture the title. He will be returning to a stack of 477,000 chips, most of which were accumulated in the first few levels.

Others to keep an eye on heading into today include Sirzat Hissou (340,000), Thomas Muehloecker (289,000), Steve O'Dwyer, (217,000), and Jean-Noel Thorel (196,000) still has chips he can put to good use as well. There will still be others that have a chance to join the field with a fresh stack of 100,000 chips so long as they haven't used both of their bullets already.

The cards will be in the air at 12 p.m. local time with the blinds resuming on level 11 at 2,000/5,000 and a 5,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue to be 30 minutes in length throughout the day until just three players are left and the levels will be cut in half. There will also be a 15-minute break after every three or four levels and no dinner break is on the schedule as of yet.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day en route to crowning another high-stakes tournament champion.

Two Fresh Stacks Go to Battle

Level 11 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Juan Pardo raised to 10,000 under the gun and Kazuhiko Yotsushika called from the small blind. The flop came {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and Yotsushika checked to Pardo who continued for 10,000. Yotsushika check-raised to 25,000 and Pardo just called.

The turn brought the {6-Clubs} and Yotsushika jammed all in for 65,000. Pardo had exactly the same as both players started the hand with a fresh stack of 100,000 chips. Pardo used a couple of time banks and then called it off.

Yotsushika tabled {a-Spades}{5-Hearts} but was in trouble against the {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs} of Pardo. The river was the {10-Spades} and Pardo's kicker played, sending Yotsushika to the rail.

Small Ball Poker Starts the Day

Level 11 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Sirzat Hissou opened to 11,000 from early position and Galen Hall defended his big blind. The {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop checked through to the {5-Spades} turn. Hall check-called for 5,000 which brought in the {j-Spades} river. The action checked through to showdown. Hall tabled his [as6g] for ace-high but Hissou claimed the pot have he showed his {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

As that hand played out, on the table nearest Mike Watson opened to 10,000 from under the gun. Motoyoshi Okamura and Nick Petrangelo called from middle position and the big blind respectively.

The three players checked the {8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop through to the {6-Diamonds} turn. Action checked to Okamura and he bet 27,000 and received two quick folds.

Watson Eliminated After an Early Double

Level 11 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Mike Watson found an early double-up against Teun Mulder and then raised to 10,000 in the cutoff. Mulder called on the button and Mateos stuck in a three-bet from the big blind. Watson four-bet shoved all in for around 200,000 which got Mulder to fold but Mateos quickly called.

Mike Watson: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Adrian Mateos: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

The flop came {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Mateos picked up a pair of kings to take a big lead. The {q-Diamonds} on the turn and the {k-Clubs} on the river secured the knockout for Mateos.

"Running good," he said to Mulder. "It's fun when you're running good."

Jonathan Jaffe
Jonathan Jaffe

Jonathan Jaffe was the last player to be seated today after showing up to the tournament area a little late. It didn't take long for him to get involved when he raised it up to 10,000 on the button. Andrew Lichtenberger shipped all in for around 70,000 in the small blind and Jaffe quickly called.

Andrew Lichtenberger: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Jonathan Jaffe: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The flop fell {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Jaffe took the lead with a pair of aces. The {a-Spades} on the turn and the {3-Spades} on the river were no help to Lichtenberger who exited the tournament area.

Hall Check-Raises the Turn

Level 11 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Thomas Muehloecker opened to 10,000 from under the gun and Sirzat Hissou called on his direct left. Galen Hall also decided to see the flop from the big blind.

The dealer fanned the {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{j-Diamonds} onto the table but neither player took a stab and checked instead. Hissou then bet 16,000 on the {8-Diamonds} turn. Hall then made it 40,000 to go. Muehloecker quickly folded and Hissou opted to do the same.
