Who Will Reach the Final Day of the 2023 EPT Paris €5,300 Main Event

Johan Schultz-Pedersen
Johan Schultz-Pedersen

The sixth largest Main Event in the history of the PokerStars European Poker Tour will crown a winner throughout the next two days. Out of a field of 1,606 entries, only 15 hopefuls remain in contention for the biggest slice of the €7,708,800 prize pool. Among them are two PokerStars online qualifiers and one of them leads the way at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile.

Romania's Razvan Belea enters the penultimate tournament day of the 2023 EPT Paris €5,300 Main Event with 7,285,000 in chips whereas Fabrice Bigot sits in the middle of the pack of shorter stacks with 1,940,000 chips to his name. Both will aim to repeat the victory of Piotr Nurzynski back in 2018, who also ran deep in this event and finished in 30th place for €28,350 this time.

It won't be an easy ride for either of the two qualifiers as the remaining field of contenders is filled with a slate of poker enthusiasts from all over Europe. Denmark's Johan Schultz-Pedersen, who calls Austria his home base these days, sits in second place on the leaderboard with 6,620,000 followed by Denzel Spekman (5,440,000).

Day 3 chip leader Konstantin Held (2,640,000) is no longer the hero atop the leaderboard after an ill-timed move against Henri Kasper (4,790,000) with both players returning in the overnight top ten.

Perhaps the biggest name still left in contention is online poker legend Niklas "lena900" Astedt, who is second to last in the counts with 1,415,000. Well-known rising poker pros Harry Lodge (2,325,000), Mehdi Chaoui (1,760,000) and Arthur Conan (1,420,000) have all had plenty of deep runs on the live poker circuit already.

Day 5 is scheduled to commence at noon local time with level 27, which features blinds of 30,000-60,000 and a big blind ante of 60,000. One further redraw will take place once the field is down to the final nine contenders and the goal of the day is reaching the last six players for tomorrow's grand finale.

All PokerNews updates for the live-streamed final table and the outer table will be published according to the 30-minute security delay in order to not spoil any of the action.

Sven Stok - Razvan Belea
Sven Stok - Razvan Belea

Sven Stok limped the small blind and chip leader Razvan Belea raised to 235,000 in the big blind. What followed was the limp-shove by Stok for just over 30 big blinds and Belea snapped him off to reveal the most cruel of setups.

Sven Stok: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Razvan Belea: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

The dominated pair found no help on the {q-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Stok left the table with a sigh and "nothing you can do there".

Delaney Welcomed to New Table with Massive Double Through Held

Level 27 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Brian Delaney
Brian Delaney

Following the elimination of Sven Stok, Brian Delaney was moved to the outer table and got immediately involved in a huge hand that's seen him double up, leaving Day 3 chip leader Konstantin Held on fumes.

Delaney raised to 125,000 from early position and was called by Held in the big blind.

On the {2-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop, Held checked to Delaney who bet 110,000. Held called to see the {2-Diamonds} fall on the flop.

The German now led out for 180,000 but got raised to 540,000 by his American counterpart. Held called with a final card to come in the already huge pot.

That final card was the {a-Clubs} on the river and Held checked. Delaney moved all in for 1,580,000, which was slightly less than what was in Held's stack.

Held called and the second massive cooler of the day at the outer table was revealed.

Held showed {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for trip deuces, but Delaney turned over {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} for a full house of tens full of deuces, leaving Held with just over two big blinds.

The next open raise to 125,000 by Brian Delaney in the cutoff then saw Arthur Conan shove for 350,000 on the button. Mathieu Di Meglio in the big blind moved all-in over the top and Delaney folded.

Arthur Conan: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Mathieu Di Meglio: {a-Spades}{7-Spades}

Conan had the best of it going into the showdown but Di Meglio flopped the nut flush draw on {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}. Nothing changed with the {9-Clubs} turn and it was then the {7-Clubs} on the river that sealed Conan's fate in 14th place for €59,300.

Niklas Astedt Eliminated in 12th Place (€71,150)

Level 28 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Niklas Åstedt
Niklas Åstedt

After Denzel Spekman raised to 160,000 in the cutoff, Niklas Astedt put in his last 190,000 total, 160,000 of which was already accounted for in the big blind and the ante.

After he put his last 30,000 in, Astedt called for a deuce as he revealed his hand.

Niklas Astedt: {4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Denzel Spekman: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The dealer co-operated with Astedt's request, spreading a flop of {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}, indeed pairing Astedt's deuce.

The {3-Diamonds} on the turn had the Swedish star primed for a critical double-up, but the {j-Diamonds} on the river spiked Spekman, giving him the win and eliminating the online superstar in 12th place.
