Life Outside Poker: Why HCL Boss Ryan Feldman Was Kicked Out of the WSOP Main Event

Ryan Feldman, co-owner of Hustler Casino Live, revealed on PokerNews' Life Outside Poker podcast that he was kicked out of the 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event over a conflict of interest stemming from his employment at ESPN.

In the 16th episode of the podcast, host Connor Richards speaks with the producer/founder of the most popular livestream in poker history about why he was booted from poker's biggest tournament, along with numerous other topics such as sports journalism, interviewing star athletes, leaving ESPN to start a poker stream, founding HCL and putting together some of the most entertaining lineups in poker history.

This interview was filmed in July at the 2024 WSOP inside Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Ludvig Sterner opened to 80,000 from middle position and Enrico Coppola three-bet to 200,000 from the button. Sterner four-bet shoved for 440,000 and Coppola called with a covering stack to put Sterner at risk.

Both players made a set on the K♦9♣7♦ flop leaving Coppola drawing to just one out. The A♣ turn changed nothing but the 9♠ river gave Coppola quad nines to take the pot while Sterner was sent to the rail following the sickening runout.

Boris Angelov raised to 120,000 from the cutoff and Enrico Camosci defended his big blind.

Camosci led out for 70,000 on the 6♦6♠2♥ flop and Angelov called.

Both players checked the 8♣ turn for the 8♠ to come on the river. After a few moments, Camosci overbet shoved for Angelov's stack of 1,450,000. Angelov went deep into the tank, using two of his time extensions. Eventually, he reluctantly folded his hand and forfeited the pot to Camosci.

The flop came 7♠7♣8♠. Watson checked and Ladev bet 105,000. Coppola called while Watson got out of the way.

Both remaining players checked the Q♣ turn leading to the 8♣ river. Ladev checked, Coppola bet 260,000 and Ladev called.

Coppola could only show a counterfeited pocket pair with 2♠2♣ while Ladev had A♠Q♦ for queens up to take the pot.

However, the 8♥ peeled off on the river to give Camosci the best hand with a pair of eights, and Bedell was out of the tournament.
