Last year at in Barcelona, France's Simon Wiciak defeated João Sydenstricker heads-up to win the EPT Main Event for €1,134,375.

Wiciak bested the field of 2,120 runners for the golden trophy, his first major live poker title, and the career-best seven-figure score.

The Frenchman struck a three-handed deal with Sydenstricker and Britain's Carl Shaw that flattened the payouts, and the trio played on for the trophy and an additional €108,975 in prize money.

Seth Davies A♥K♣ raised to 180,000 in the small blind and Kayhan Mokri Q♥6♠ three-bet to 360,000 in the big blind.

"I raise the minimum," said Davies, announcing a min-raise to 540,000.

Mokri used a time bank before letting his hand go into the muck.

"Nine-deuce of clubs?" said Sean Winter.

"Someone's been watching the streams," replied Davies.

An interesting topic came up on the PokerStars live stream, which you can watch here, with commentator Joe Stapleton asking Maria Ho which player she thought studies the most.

"Davies has to be pretty well-studied," said Ho. "Lonis tweets that he's all exploitative and not a really a studier. And Sean [Winter] - I don't wanna assume, but I don' thtink he's the type that's poring over the solvers."

"But if you think about the people Davies runs with, Jason Koon and the like. Those people are obviously in the lab. And Mokri's a sicko, we know his online results. The online fields are very tough, so you wanna be doing some solver-approved stuff in those streets."

The J♠4♣9♥ flop saw Davies check-call a bet of 80,000 from Mokri.

The 9♦ turn and the 9♠ river checked through to a showdown. Davies' float with Q♣3♣ was behind the ace-high of Mokri's A♣8♦.
