Flashback: Simon Wiciak Dominates 2023 EPT Barcelona Main Event To Win €1,134,375

Last year at in Barcelona, France's Simon Wiciak defeated João Sydenstricker heads-up to win the EPT Main Event for €1,134,375.

Wiciak bested the field of 2,120 runners for the golden trophy, his first major live poker title, and the career-best seven-figure score.

The Frenchman struck a three-handed deal with Sydenstricker and Britain's Carl Shaw that flattened the payouts, and the trio played on for the trophy and an additional €108,975 in prize money.

Yi Lin raised to 28,000 from under the gun, receiving calls from the hijack, cutoff and big blind.

The J♥5♠K♠ flop saw the action check to Francesco Pilato, in the cutoff, who took the lead for 49,000. The big blind folded and Lin went deep into the tank. Lin toyed with exact calling chips for some time before clicking it back with a min-raise to 98,000.

The hijack folded and Pilato soon followed suit, tapping the table twice as he conceded the pot.

With the completed board of 9♦7♣3♠Q♥A♣ on the table, Oleksandr Turych was faced with a pot-sized bet of 225,000 from Paolo Boi, and he made the call.

Boi tossed Q♣Q♦ face up for a set of queens, and Turych mucked his hand.

The following hand, Turych shoved his last 222,000 from the cutoff and Peter Kvisthammar announced all in from the small blind, forcing the big blind out of the pot.

You could feel the frustration from Turych when he saw the cards. The K♠9♠5♦ flop gave him a glimmer of hope as he paired his king, but the 6♠ turn and 9♣ river weren't what he needed and he walked away from the table.

The 5♣5♥Q♥ flop was checked around before Sitbon led the K♠ turn for 20,000. Altman called. Sitbon then checked the J♦ river before Altman bet roughly 55,000. Sitbon snap-called and showed K♦J♠ for two pair. Altman tabled A♦2♦ for a bluff and Okamoto's K♣10♣ confirmed her exit from the tournament.
