Konstantinos Nanos opened to 340,000 from middle position, then Andris Rasins in the small blind three-bet all in for 1,730,000. Nanos asked for the count and called.
Andris Rasins: K♥Q♦
Konstantinos Nanos: A♣J♣
After the flop of 5♠9♥8♦, the 10♦ turn gave a straight draw to both players. "Jack," whispered Rasins, and he was heard as the J♠ river completed his straight to double him up.
Action folded around to the blinds, where Luke Porter raised to 360,000 from the small blind. Maor Zaharagi shoved for 2,535,000 total from the big blind and Porter snap-called to put Zaharagi at risk.
Maor Zaharagi: A♦6♦
Luke Porter: A♥Q♠
The 3♦7♠10♣ flop kept Zaharagi well behind but the 5♠ turn gave him outs to a gutshot in addition to his six.
The 4♠ river filled Zaharagi's straight draw and he was awarded the double up.
Around 550,000 was in the middle on a flop of A♠9♦4♦ in a hand between Theodoros Ampelikiotis in middle position and Jakub Sterba in the big blind, with Sterba check-calling a bet of 150,000.
The same pattern followed on the 6♠ turn, this time in respect of a bet of 450,000.
The Q♠ river was checked through. Sterba showed K♦9♣ for a pair of nines, but his opponent had got there on the river with K♣Q♥, much to Sterba's chargrin.
Julio Carvalho shoved for 1,085,000 from under the gun and he was called by Tim van Kemenade to his left. Alexantr Spatharis on the button went into the tank, but eventually folded what he later said was queens.
Julio Carvalho: A♥K♠
Tim van Kemenade: A♦A♣
There was no hope for Carvalho on a board of 5♠6♦8♣2♥7♥ and he was eliminated.
Istvan Pilhofer shoved for his last 2,170,000 from under the gun and it was folded around to Michael Sklenicka in the cutoff, who went all in for more. Everyone else got out of the way and hands were revealed.
Istvan Pilhofer: K♠Q♠
Michael Sklenicka: A♣A♠
It was unfortunate timing for Pilhofer, and the 8♠7♦5♦7♣4♦ runout changed nothing to award Sklenicka the knockout.
Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the 21st episode, Connor speaks with Survivor legend Boston Rob, aka Rob Mariano, about growing up near Fenway Park, learning poker at the age of 6, studying psychology at Boston University, applying for Survivor and winning Season 22, his recent appearance on Deal or No Deal Island and filming an upcoming season of The Traitors.
Boston Rob also revealed a story about Costa Rican authorities raiding a mansion known to host high-stakes poker games during a 2006 filming that included Daniel Negreanu, Josh Arieh, David Williams, Michael Mizrachi and actress Cheryl Hines.
"(Gambling mogul) Calvin (Ayre) had a big party at the house, and they came in guns drawn," he said. "And we were fine, but we all had to stay at the party until they checked our passports and everything. I think it was a little bit of a shakedown. But we had a good weekend."
Jakub Sterba raised to 250,000 on the button and was called by Magnus Persson in the small blind.
Persson checked on the K♥5♣J♦ flop and Sterba continued for 250,000. Persson then check-raised to 675,000 and Sterba let his hand go after a bit of thought.
Lars Sommer jammed for 1,225,000 from under the gun and he was called by Jakub Sterba on the button.
Lars Sommer: A♠Q♦
Jakub Sterba: K♦K♣
Sommer was on the edge of elimination after the flop of 3♥6♣7♥ and the 4♣ turn. But the 5♠ river completed the straight on the board, so Sommer and Sterba split the pot.
