The action was joined with the cards already on their backs. Hamza Nasir had manoeuvred his remaining 275,000 stack into the middle and was at risk versus Raul Mestre on a 9♠3♣6♦ flop.
Hamza Nasir: A♠A♣
Raul Mestre: 8♦7♦
Nasir's pocket aces held firm on the 9♣ turn, but the river was a step too far, as the 5♦ improved Mestre to a straight.
On separate neighbouring tables, Joao Vieira and Fabiano Cappelli also fell in the final couple of hands of the level.
Longmao Fan was seen dragging a big pot, which Yao Xiang was on the losing end of. Xiang was left with just 36,000, which he tossed in from the small blind the next hand. David Djian called in the big blind, and the cards were tabled.
Yao Xiang: J♠J♥
David Djian: 8♠7♥
A comeback story was looking to be in the cards for Xiang, but Djian made two pair on the 7♣K♠9♦8♥ turn for a big lead. The 2♣ river did not save Xiang, who amicably tapped the table before he left the tournament area.
Some minutes before, Samuel Ju had gotten his aces in preflop against the ace-king of Mehdi Chaoui, and held to double up to an above-average stack. Meanwhile, Stanislau Shylkou was eliminated from the feature table at the start of Day 4.
Bernhard Binder opened to 26,000 from the cutoff, and then called a three-bet to 78,000 by Artsiom Lasouski on the button.
On a flop of A♥9♠K♥, Binder checked to Lasouski, who continued for 65,000. Binder responded with a check-raise to 150,000, to which Lasouski elected to fold.
Derk van Luijk and Jason Wheeler had created a pot of 375,000 in the blinds when they went to the A♣4♣2♥2♣9♠ river. After some thought, Van Luijk moved his remaining 214,000 all in, only to be snap-called by Wheeler.
Van Luijk confidently tabled 4♠4♥ for a full house, but Wheeler turned quad deuces with his 2♠2♦ to win the pot.
A stunned Van Luijk was sent to the payout desk, dashing his hopes of adding another EPT Monte-Carlo title to his resume. Meanwhile, Wheeler chipped up to cross the seven-figure mark.
The action was joined as Longmao Fan, on the button, and big blind player David Djian had worked their stacks into the middle preflop after a series of bets.
Fan had the larger of the two stacks, meaning Djian was at risk of elimination.
David Djian: K♥K♦
Longmao Fan: A♠A♦
The tides quickly turned, as the dealer spread a 9♣6♥K♠ flop, improving Djian to top set.
The 10♥ turn and 10♦ river improved Djian to a full house, seeing him survive, pulling in a huge double up.
Dorian Dizy raised his button to 24,000. Mehdi Chaoui called in the big blind and subsequently checked the A♠6♥3♦ flop. Dizy put in a bet of 16,000, which Chaoui raised to 60,000.
Dizy called to the 4♠ turn, on which Chaoui checked again. Dizy piled in a hefty bet of 125,000, seeing Chaoui toss in calling chips. Chaoui then led out for a tiny 18,000 on the 10♠ river, quickly being looked up by Dizy.
Chaoui revealed A♥Q♣ for top pair, and Dizy mucked his cards in defeat.
In the first of two hands that led to the demise of Boris Pesic, the Slovenian called an early position raise to 24,000 from the cutoff and then faced a three-bet to 177,000 from Laurent Polito in the big blind. The original raiser folded, but Pesic called.
Pesic called, and before the dealer had even pulled the chips in, Polito said the words "all in". Another player at the table asked if that was binding, and the floor was called to provide a ruling. After a short delay in play, the tournament officials advised that once a flop had been dealt, Polito would be held to his words and would be forced all in.
The dealer spread a 2♥Q♥3♦ flop, and, as was necessary, Polito slid all his chips into the middle. Pesic had the smaller of the two stacks, and as such, he would be at risk if he chose to call.
Pesic took his time to decide, trying to engage in some conversation with Polito, who remained resolute. Pesic then chose to fold 9♠9♣ face up.
Laurent Polito
The very next shuffle, Benny Glaser raised from under the gun, and Pesic moved all in for 176,000. The action returned to Glaser, who called.
Boris Pesic: 4♦4♣
Benny Glaser: 9♠9♦
The 3♣J♥5♥5♠10♠ board offered no improvement for Pesic, who was eliminated.
Lucas Blanco was in the big blind and got his stack of 172,000 in against Boris Kolev in the small blind.
Lucas Blanco: A♣J♠
Boris Kolev: Q♣9♠
Blanco's ace-high remained best on the 3♦7♠6♣K♥ flop and turn, and he rivered top pair on the A♥ river to secure his double-up.
At another table, Laurent Polito was all in for 284,000 under the gun and was up against Fabiano Cappelli on the button.
Laurent Polito: A♥A♣
Fabiano Cappelli: K♥K♣
The 5♣9♣A♠ flop left Cappelli's kings with just runner-runner outs, and Polito's top set was awarded the pot as the 10♥ turn prevented any miracles from occuring. The 3♦ river was dealt as a formality before the next hand was dealt.
