Tamazi Skhirtladze raised to 3,000 under the gun before Joshua Boulton three-bet to 7,000 in middle position. As action folded back around to Skhirtladze, the dealer informed Neil Channing he didn't put in enough to pay the small blind.
"I only pay half. That's how I've survived this long," Channing joked. Skhirtladze then four-bet to 15,000, Boulton moved all in, and Skhirtladze called for 30,000.
Tamazi Skhirtladze: A♦Q♥
Joshua Boulton: K♠K♥
Skhirtladze was already up from his seat as the flop came 7♣6♥10♥. The 4♥ came on the turn, while the river was the 6♠ and he was sent to the rail.
"I would've gotten away with it if she wasn't so picky," Channing told table neighbor Benjamin Gros after the hand.
Giorgos Onisiforou was all-in preflop for 21,000, and Philipp Hofbauer had committed his stack of 32,000 as well. Victor Guadiana had looked them up, putting both opponents at risk.
Giorgos Onisiforou: K♦K♣
Philipp Hofbauer: A♠Q♥
Victor Guadiana: 10♠10♦
Hofbauer flopped trips on Q♦Q♠3♦ for a big lead. The 4♥ turn and 4♦ river remained safe, winning him the pot and knocking out Onisiforou.
Carlos Marques raised to 3,000 under the gun and Gianluca Fichera moved all in for his last 15,000 in the hijack. Graeme Newman called in the small blind, but Marques then reraised to 55,000 to chase out Newman.
Gianluca Fichera: A♣K♦
Carlos Marques: 9♦8♦
The table expressed surprise when Rocha turned over his cards, with Newman letting out a "wow." The J♠10♠2♥ flop kept Fichera in the lead, but Marques hit the 9♠ on the turn to make a pair. The 8♣ river improved him to two pair, and Fichera was sent to the rail.
Ewen Trevidy raised to 3,000 under the gun, Victoria Coren Mitchell moved all in for 17,000 in the cutoff, and Trevidy called.
Victoria Coren Mitchell: J♦J♣
Ewen Trevidy: 10♠10♥
Coren Mitchell had Trevidy dominated as the flop came K♣4♦4♣, while the J♥ turn improved her to a full house and left Trevidy drawing dead. The river was the 7♠ and Coren Mitchell doubled up.
Enrico Coppola raised to 3,000 in the hijack before Giovani Torre three-bet to 9,000 in the cutoff. Coppola called, and they went heads-up to the 9♣5♠4♦ flop.
Torre then bet 6,000, but Coppola came back with a raise to 15,000. Torre called to see the 10♠ turn.
Coppola then moved all in for 40,000, and Torre didn't take too long before throwing his cards into the muck.
Petre Ionescu moved all in for 32,500 from the button and Antoine Berruel called in middle position.
Petre Ionescu: K♠Q♥
Antoine Berruel: 10♣10♠
Ionescu picked up a straight draw on the A♥8♣J♣ flop to go with his two overcards, but the J♦ turn took away his draw. He couldn't connect with the 5♦ river, and Ionescu became one of the first eliminations of the day.
Nicolas Julien opened to 3,000 in the hijack, after which Vincent Gabel committed his short stack of 19,500 on the button. Julien asked for a count, debated a while, and then called.
Vincent Gabel: A♥K♠
Nicolas Julien: Q♠10♠
Julien shot ahead on the 9♥7♦10♦ flop, and made two pair on the Q♣ turn to solidify his lead. The 7♣ river could not save Gabel as he took an early exit on Day 2.
