Geilich The Comeback Master

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

After a min-raise to 2,000 and a call, Ludovic Geilich moved all in for 11,800 out of the blinds and initial raiser Konstantin Tolokno reshoved for 25,400. The other player got out of the way and Geilich won the flip with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} versus {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} after making a full house on the {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {7-Clubs} board.

Other tables nearby include big stacks Robert Schulz and Guillaume Darcourt, though the Frenchman was just moved into the main tournament area.

Luca Eliminates Pomaret

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We arrived in time to find Michel Pomaret all in and at risk before the flop against Ivan Luca. Pomaret was all in for what looked to be his last 43,500.

Pomaret: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Luca: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

The dealer fanned a flop of {Q-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, prompting Pomaret to throw his hands in the air. Suddenly Pomaret was in need of improvement to best Luca's pair of kings or else he would be eliminated from play.

Unfortunately for Pomaret, he found no help on the turn ({6-Spades}) or the river ({8-Spades}). Pomaret made a quit exit from the tournament floor while Luca stacked his new chips. The Argentinian now has about 110,000 to his name.

Morin Busts Metais

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Pierre Morin opened and got one call before Claude Metais squeezed all in for 16,800. Morin called whereas the other player got out of the way and it was a flip with the {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} for Morin and {6-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} for Metais.

On the {2-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {9-Hearts} flop, Morin picked up an additional flush draw and completed just that with the {6-Hearts}. However, Metais now had more outs to win the hand still. It wasn't meant to be with the {Q-Clubs} as final community card though.

Other notables on the rail: Roman Korenev and Philippe Ktorza.

Aces Doubles Lache

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Vlad Lache shipped the last of his 12,000 in the middle and Martins Adeniya peeled off a few chips from his tower to look him up.

Adeniya gave a nod of respect though when he saw the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} of Lache and his own {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} didn’t look too promising.

The God of poker sweats put out a flop of {j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Spades} but the remaining jacks stayed in the deck as the turn {9-Clubs} and river {6-Diamonds} gave Lache a double up.

Aido In Two Minds

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Sergio Aido
Sergio Aido

Emin Aghayev opened from the cut-off for 2,000 and Sergio Aido on the button three-bet to 5,500. The blinds folded and they went to a flop of {8-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}.

Aghayev checked it over to Aido who bet 4,500. Aghayev then check-raised him to 11,500. Aido took quite some time to think about it, although he couldn’t really study his opponent as they were sat in the one seat and the nine seat. Eventually Aido flicked out the call to see what developed on the turn.

The {2-Diamonds} popped out of the deck and Aghayev continued the story with a bet of 9,500. Aido had seen enough and quickly flicked his cards away.

MacPhee Doubles Through Koren

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Kevin MacPhee
Kevin MacPhee

Another remaining EPT champion has just scored a nice double up. After a raise, four players including Artur Koren and Kevin MacPhee called to see the flop of {7-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {8-Hearts}. A continuation bet of 5,500 was called by Koren before MacPhee raised to 17,300. Alexander Ivarsson called before Koren squeezed all in for more than 100,000. Ivarsson then got out of the way and MacPhee tabled his {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades} for middle set whereas Koren had the {A-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for top pair and the nut flush draw.

The {6-Diamonds} turn changed nothing and the {6-Hearts} gave Koren a meaningless flush, as MacPhee had completed a full house.

Clash of Champions

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier could highlight any feature table
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier could highlight any feature table

With 39 tables in use at the start of Day 2 and so many big names remaining - including 17 EPT champions - it was always likely that the random seat draw was going to work its magic and provide us with more than one 'feature' table.

So whilst those at table eight may have made their way to the main stage to be broadcast on EPTLive, given that they were the designated feature table, out in the field there was plenty of outstanding tables to cast an eye over. The PokerStars Blog took a closer look.

Cody Over Jatras

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Jake Cody raised to 2,200 from early position and found calls from the next two players at the table. Action trickled around to Todd Jatras in the big blind and he came along for the party.

The quartet of players took a flop of {8-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. Jatras checked and Cody fired out a continuation bet of 5,500. The next two players folded, putting action back on Jatras. He called to see a turn.

The turn was the {9-Spades} and Jatras checked for a second time. Cody followed suit, allowing the {2-Spades} to finish off the community cards. Jatras checked one final time and Cody sat motionless for the better part of a minute. Ultimately, Cody came out with a river bet of 13,200. Jatras quickly called, only to muck his cards after seeing Cody's {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for top pair. Cody took down the pot and now has about 78,000 to his name.

Coren-Mitchell’s Better Nature

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Victoria Coren-Mitchell checked it over to Rob Strong on the river of a board reading {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

There was already 20,000 in the middle and Stong made a bet of 9,000. Coren-Mitchell, as she likes to do, started talking it through out loud, vacillating between calling and folding, counting out the chips in recognition of the significance of the bet to her stack. Summing up her torment Coren-Mitchell said, “My better nature is battling with my curiosity.”

Better nature won in the end and Coren-Mitchell folded to keep the chips in her stack. The dissection of the hand went on for several more minutes with Strong seemingly admitting that he had a ten in his hand.

Darcourt Back on Top

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Guillaume Darcourt
Guillaume Darcourt

To be honest, we're not entirely sure what has happened, but Guillaume Darcourt claims to have around 300,000. We weren't able to exactly count the huge stack of Darcourt as he has several towers with different heights, but the Frenchman who started the day as chipleader does have a lot of chips, that's for sure.

One of our French colleagues told us a hand where Julien Brécard opened and one player called. Darcourt called with {9-}{7-} from the small blind and checked to Brécard on {5-}{6-}{7-}. The French Team Pro checked and the third player took the lead betting 5,000. Darcourt made the call, Brécard folded. Darcourt check called another 9,000 on the {2-} turn and 18,000 on the {3-} river. Darcourt's opponent mucked and Darcourt took it down.
