No Double For Jake Cody, Out Of The Main Event In Fifth

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

The tournament room at the Grand Connaught is a quieter place right now, for the nearest thing it had to a local hero is out. Jake Cody is the fifth place finisher, the Team Pro falling agonisingly close to a second EPT title, but too hurt by a pot against Kevin MacPhee’s flush to make it those last few steps. He departed a short while ago with £133,800, and about a dozen friends ready to cheer him up, or help him drink through it. As the PokerStars Blog reports.

Hand #138: Kevin MacPhee looked at {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} in the cutoff and raised the action to 200,000. It folded over to Kevin Killeen in the small blind and he found {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} in the hole. He made it 595,000 to go and action folded back to MacPhee who kicked his cards in as well.

Hand #139: MacPhee had {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} under the gun and he raised to 200,000. It came around to Jake Cody in the big blind and he flatted with {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

The dealer fanned {J-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{k-Spades}, giving Cody trip kings. He checked, MacPhee continued for 230,000, and Cody moved all in for 1.12 million. MacPhee called and the hands were exposed to show that Cody was a 93% favorite to take down the pot.

Unfortunately for the EPT Season 6 Deauville champion, the {Q-Hearts} drilled the turn, giving MacPhee a full house of queens full of kings. The {2-Clubs} completed the board and Cody was sent to the rail as the fifth place finisher.

Hand #137: Cody and MacPhee Chop All In Pot

Level 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #137: Jake Cody moved all in from the cutoff for 1.34 million. Kevin MacPhee called from the button and the two blinds folded.

MacPhee: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Cody: {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The flop came down {2-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, vaulting Cody into the lead with a pair of jacks. Cody made two pair on the turn with the {K-Hearts}, but the two chopped the hand on the river after the {4-Hearts} drilled the felt.

Hand #134: Kevin Killeen raised from the button with {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} to 210,000 and took down the pot.

Hand #135: From button Sebastian Pauli raised to 200,000 with {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and he took down the pot.

Hand #136: Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody raised to 200,000 with {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Kevin MacPhee looked down on {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} in the small blind. MacPhee moved all in for 1,780,000 and Cody went into the tank about a possible call for more than half his stack.

After three minutes Cody called and the showdown went as following with 3.7 million chips in the pot.

The flop brought out {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Cody picked up an open ended straight draw, and the turn was the {2-Hearts}. MacPhee was in the lead but Cody still had plenty of outs to knock his opponent out. The river was the {J-Hearts} and Cody hit a pair but it gave MacPhee a winning flush! Cody is now the short stack at the table.
