No One Tells You Things Might Get A Little Slow

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

It was not difficult to see why there was a reporters and two TV people lurking in the corner. You only had to look at the table next to them to see why. At this table was, among others, Paul Newey, Eugene Katchalov, Chris Moorman, Jason Mercier and Igor Kurganov, a terrible line up for anyone filling in the gaps, but a great one for someone looking to get to the nub of the tournament. And yet, things were strangely quiet, as the PokerStars Blog reports:

Spindler Set Sunk

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Benny Spindler opened the action for 5,000 and picked up a couple of callers including big blind Jabran Zahid. The flop was {4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Zahid decided to move all in for a bet of around 20 big blinds. Spindler made the call pretty quickly.

Spindler had landed top set with his {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} but for Zahid it was, as he would later describe it, a “Sick flop.” He turned over {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for the flopped straight. A turn card {2-Diamonds} and a river {j-Diamonds} saw Zahid double up and take a chunk of change from the unamused Spindler.

Katchalov Over Mercier

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Jason Mercier raised to 4,800 from early position and action trickled around to fellow Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov in the small blind. Katchalov called, the big blind got out of the way, and the two took a flop of {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

Katchalov checked to the raiser and Mercier continued out for 4,200. Katchalov stuck around, allowing the {Q-Spades} to fall on fourth street. Both players checked fourth street, prompting the dealer to put out the {6-Hearts} on the river. Two more checks occurred and Katchalov rolled over {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}. Mercier smiled, threw his hand into the muck, and Katchalov was awarded the pot.

Revealing Table

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

On a flop of {4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo led out for 7,800. Sat to her immediate left was her opponent Sofia Lovgren who raised her to 16,000.

De Melo thought it over for a while before pushing her cards forward. Lovgren showed her the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

“That was nice of you to show her.” Marc-Andre Ladouceur called over and then gestured to his neighbour and continued, “I’ve been showing him mine all day.”

De Melo thanked Lovgren for showing her what she had.

It's game over for Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier, he had {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} on a {10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} board but ran into David Cabrera who flopped a set and turned a full house with {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Mercier was all in by the river with the Spaniard having him covered.

"Did you bluff me earlier?" asked Mercier, referring to a previous hand as he began to pack his things.

"No, I had it," replied Cabrera.

Trickett Doubles Up

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Sam Trickett
Sam Trickett

Kamal Choraria opened the action for 6,500 from the cut-off and Sam Trickett moved all in over the top for 80,000. It seemed Dori Yacoub in the big blind had a tough decision to make as he took a few minutes to make up his mind, particularly as they all had similar stack sizes. Yacoub did fold though and when it got back to Choraria he made a quick call.

Trickett felt he must be in big trouble as he slightly sheepishly turned over his {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}. He would utter, “Oh wow.” on seeing Choraria’s {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. A flop of {8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} saw Trickett out of his seat. All eyes were glued to the felt as the dealer burned and turned the {7-Spades}. A collective gasp rang out when Trickett spiked his {4-Diamonds} river card to double up and put the hurt on Choraria.
