Daniel Mullen was all in for crumbs from early position in a three-way pot against Marvin Rumer and another player.
With the board reading 5♠6♣J♦10♠7♣, Rumer bet 5,000 and the player called. Rumer showed K♣10♥ to beat out the Q♦10♦ of the opponent to win the side pot, but Mullen showed Q♥J♥ to win the main pot with a pair of queens.
Marvin Rumer cracked aces and spectacular fashion and the table made sure PokerNews heard about it.
As relayed by Rumer, he raised and called as Reinhardt three-bet behind him. Rumer check-called again on the flop of JxJxJx and the two then got the rest of the chips in on a blank turn.
Marvin Rumer: AxJx
Eric Reinhardt: AxAx
Rumer had flopped quads to have Reinhardt drawing stone dead as the meaningless river landed to earn him a double.
In a heads-up pot on a board of 8♣3♣A♥, a player checked and Suzzanne Barsaloux bet 5,000.
The player check-jammed a stack of around 25,000 and Barsaloux called after some thought.
Opponent: 3♠3♦
Suzzanne Barsaloux: A♦9♣
Barsaloux had run into a set to have her top pair drawing nearly dead, but the 9♠ changed things as she had potential to crack the set. Those at the table then gasped as the 9♦ rolled off on the river as the opponent was sent to the rail in sickening fashion.
"It was very lucky," said Barsaloux, who may have gotten some of that luck from the "Wow Girl" card protector in front of her.
92-year-old Bob Schreiner couldn't make it to this year's FPN Vegas National Championship, but the presence of the tour's oldest member can be felt in the room, and seen on the felt.
Schreiner, a Marine veteran who PokerNewswrote about last year, is known on the FPN circuit for gifting his custom-painted "Wow Girl" rocks to women dealers and players, believing that every woman deserves that kind of small yet meaningful recognition.
Wow Girl Rock
What's a Wow Girl rock? You'll recognize it as a small stone, typically painted white with a red heart and a handwritten message such as "Someone Loves You." And Wow Girl rocks, which make excellent card protectors, could be seen on top of cards here at the FPN Vegas National Championship.
Knowing he couldn't make it to Las Vegas, Schreiner prepped over 300 Wow Girl rocks and tasked FPN's Dana Castaneda with distributing them at this year's festival.
A handmade card protector with a message, from a thoughtful veteran who loves poker. Now that's a better card protector than your mini Thor's hammer, wouldn't you say?
In a heads-up pot on a board of J♦Q♥5♣J♠, Michael Soper bet 12,000 and his opponent called.
The 8♣ river completed the board and Soper moved all in for 55,000. The opponent requested a count and gave it some thought before showing the Q♠ and folding.
