EURASIA 6-max
Day 1 Started
"4 years ago the Global Poker Index (GPI) began to transition itself to become poker’s player ranking authority, with a mission to “Sportify Poker”. We acquired The Hendon Mob (the largest live poker database online since its start 12 years ago), followed by the launch of initiatives such as the American Poker Awards, the GPI World Cup and others.
5 months ago, we set out on another long journey when we launched the Global Poker League. Thanks to the support of 72 of the best poker players in the world (whose combined earnings total almost $400 million) we built up 12 global teams who would go on to compete for 14 weeks of regular season action. After the success of GPL's Draft Day in Los Angeles, we filmed 200+ hours of matches both online and live. We built “The Cube”, our signature arena in Las Vegas, and experimented constantly with better ways to connect the game to our viewers. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Powered by Twitch.tv as a partner though, we were able to accrue more than half a million unique engaged viewers to GPL streams.
We built a platform we believe will become the foundation of ‘Pokertainment’ in the next few years, but we are not yet there yet. We adjusted some of our plans to fit into the reality of our situation too - creating a new sports and entertainment property will take some time.
Right before summer, we secured a multi-year deal with one of China’s sports properties - Sina Sports - with whom we will launch GPL China in the 1st quarter of next year. Some other key strategic partnerships we’ve been cultivating for the past 9 months are now being finalized and set to launch in 2017. With a backlog of completed content and a real vision in place, it’s much easier for us to engage with media & entertainments groups as well.
A mentor of mine once told me that perhaps our biggest threat will be the disparity between how confident we are in our projects in the face of the doubts they will bring in the public arena. I couldn’t agree more. That’s why I’m lucky to have the partners, players and co-workers which we have. I’ve been an entrepreneur for 20 years and I realize this endeavor is the most ambitious one I’ve undertaken, It’s the most exciting too. We want to create a framework that will aggregate Poker’s 100 million global fans (not even counting the Chinese market), convert them into consumers, create opportunities to grow the game of poker outside of its existing boundaries and push it into the more mainstream. The gist - Poker outside the box, but inside The Cube. :-)
The basics for the GPL are built, our next step is focusing on expanding “fan engagement” through the end of 2016 and into 2017, testing new fan monetization models based on GPL content and unique fan-centric experiences."

It’s time to get back online and back in action. The second part of the Global Poker League's inaugural season starts today!
At 12pm EDT (18:00 CEST, in about 2 hours) the first of two EURASIA 6-max heats starts. The second EURASIA 6-max heat begins at 1:40pm, followed by the two AMERICAS 6-max heats at 3:30pm and 5:10pm. Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday, September 22, three heads-up matches are scheduled.
You can follow along live on twich.tv and right here on PokerNews.com, with written updates of all the important hands and crazy action from the online gathering of world's best players.
GPL will see the return of the online show, hosted by Laura Cornelius, Eric Danis, Roland Boothby and a rotating cast of poker experts - beginning with 2-time WPT Winner and GPL Las Vegas Moneymaker team-member Jonathan Little.
All of these six players have experience with the GPL 6-max format. Liv Boeree is one of the best scoring players in this type of game. She raked in three wins out of her five 6-max appearances for the London Royals.
Dominik Nitsche played two 6-max tournaments in the GPL. He won one and ended up second in the other one. Paris Aviators’ Alexandre Luneau is also familiar with winning these 6-max heats. He won twice in four appearances scoring a total of 18 points for his team.
Igor Yaroshevsky competed in four 6-max tournaments and has scored ten points for the Moscow Wolverines. Guo Dong hasn’t got a win yet, but he still delivered for his team. He contributed ten points for the total score of the Hong Kong Stars, ending up second in two of his three entries in the 6-max tournaments. Dario Sammartino hasn’t been very successful yet. He finished fourth and sixth in his two appearances in this format.

There are only six weeks of play left, before the Global Poker League reaches the playoffs. Only the top four teams of each conference are allowed to compete in Las Vegas. So the points are getting costly. This is the point distribution for today’s 6-max heats:
Place | Points |
---|---|
1st | 7 points |
2nd | 5 points |
3rd | 3 points |
4th | 2 points |
5th | 1 point |
6th | 0 points |
There was a little delay, but match 117 of the Global Poker League has started. Blinds start at 100/200 with a 25 ante and each level will last eight minutes.
The game started some minutes ago, but due to some technical issues the Twitch-stream isn't working properly. The Global Poker League crew is working on it.
The people of the GPL are working hard to get the stream back in the air. Meanwhile we take a moment to make you aware of the Global Poker League App.
Follow all the action, view the standings, get the latest news and much more by downloading de GPL TV App. You can download it for Android and IOS.
While the stream was offline, Guo Dong has already busted out of this heat. We don't know the details of his exit.
With his sixth place he doesn't earn any points for the Hong Kong Stars. This will probably cost them their third place in the standings, because the Paris Aviators of chipleader Alexandre Luneau are only two points behind.
Luneau is leading the field with 36,500 points, but Igor Yaroshevsky and Dario Sammartino are right on his heels.
