Showing One Card at a Time

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Jonathan Reyes opened to 2,000 from under the gun and got calls from Henrique Oliveiro from middle position and Surinder Sunar from the big blind.

Sunar checked after the {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts} came on the flop and Reyes bet 3,300. Oliveiro folded and Sunar called.

Sunar checked again after the {10-Hearts} came on the turn. Reyes bet 7,400 and the action paused for a couple of minutes before Sunar raised to 20,000.

Reyes tanked for a couple of minutes before he jammed for 83,200. Sunar folded in under a minute to give Reyes the pot.

While neither player needed to show their cards, there was a little fun going on after the hand. Reyes first showed the {j-Diamonds} and Sunar followed by turning over the {6-Spades}. Reyes then showed he had second pair and a gutshot straight draw after turning over the {10-Diamonds}. Sunar then showed he only had third pair after he exposed the {8-Clubs}.

Not Everyone Loves a Chopped Pot

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Myagmar Altangerel had his 70,000 in chips in the pot holding {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} with the {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs} on the flop with Stefanos Giannakopoulos holding {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

Giannakopoulos appeared pleased when the {a-Hearts} came on the turn. However, he slammed down his first on the table after the {4-Spades} came on the river to put a straight on the board for a chopped pot.

Early Exit for Montealegre

Level 4 : 400/800, 800 ante
Ivonne Montealegre
Ivonne Montealegre

Ivonne Montealegre was no longer in her seat and two players at her former table shared her final hand. She was down to about 45,000 in chips and had {j-}{j-}. She got all her chips in the middle with an overpair against the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} held by Oliver Buquiran with two clubs on the flop.

A third club came to give Buquiran a flush and Montealegre was eliminated. The Malta Poker Festival founder can still get back into the action today with late registration open until the start of Level 13. She may also choose to reenter on one of the other opening flights or choose to play in one of the many side events or the nonstop cash games.

Also recently eliminated was Jorge Opaso.

The Day 1b field is currently at 50 entrants with 46 actively playing.
