The first flight of the GUKPT Luton Main Event is in the books with 20 players advancing from a field of 99.

The chip leader is Tamer Kamel who bagged 215,500 ahead of Ben Maregedze with 181,000. James Clarke sits third in chips with 175,100.

Kamel won a big pot against Terry Jordon in the final level when he hit a flush against Jordon's trip kings, and propelled himself up the chip counts having been below 50,000 for most of the day.

Players who were unable to survive included Jordon, defending champion David Docherty, Ryan Mandara, Yucel Eminoglu, Jacob Mulhern, Willie Tann, Sonia Padovani and Alberto Speranzoni.

The board was down {k-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and Terry Jordon bet 15,000 from under the gun, which Tamer Kamel called.

The river was the {9-Spades} and Jordon moved all in for around 65,000. Kamel had 44,000 behind, and the two players chatted before Kamel called and revealed {3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for a flush. Jordon tabled {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for trips and was left with 20,000.

Just moments later, the call was made for an empty seat and it was Jordon who had departed from Day 1a in the final level.

Xie Makes a Comeback

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

John Bousfield raised to 2,100 from middle position, and Renee Xie shoved for 20,900 from the hijack. Christopher Louch went into the tank from the cutoff but ultimately folded before Bousfield called after the action folded back to him.

Bousfield: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Xie: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

"That's the only hand I didn't want you to have" said Xie.

But the board ran out {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and Xie hit a runner-runner straight to double up despite being dominated preflop.

Parker Chips Up

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Joseph Phillips raised to 2,200 from under the gun, James Parker called from the next seat, and Mitchell Johnson called from the big blind. The flop fell {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Johnson checked. Phillips continued for 3,200 and both opponents called. The {a-Clubs} appeared on the turn, and Parker bet 6,000 after the action had checked to him. Johnson called, and Phillips folded.

Johnson checked on the {3-Diamonds} river and Parker bet 15,000. Johnson gave his decision some thought before folding.

River Saviour for Docherty

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

David Docherty moved all in for 10,000 after his opponent had raised to 2,000 from middle position, and Docherty received the call.

Docherty: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Opponent: {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

Board: {4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Docherty looked set to depart from Day 1a again after the flop and turn gave him no joy, but the jack on the river gave him top pair and a final level lifeline.
