GUKPT Coventry

Welcome back to PokerNews for continued coverage of the GUKPT Coventry Main Event.

A field of just over 100 players are returning for Day 2, with late registration still open until five minutes before cards get in the air. Once they do at 12 p.m. local time, players will have ten 60-minute levels to ensure they're in with a chance of the big prizes on Day 3 tomorrow.

Payouts are yet to be confirmed, but we will bring you all the details as soon as they have been released.

Two anonymous chip leaders head the field after the opening flights, but all eyes will be on Grosvenor Poker Team Pro Richard Trigg who heads into Day 2 fourth in chips behind Rodrigo Hernandez.

Other notables to keep an eye out for include defending GUKPT Coventry Champion Steve Jelinek, GUKPT London champion Timothy Chung, WSOP bracelet winners Richard Ashby and Carl Shaw as well as Bhavin Khatri, Joe Hindry, and Renee Xie.

Early Double for Docherty

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

David Docherty check-called 2,000 on {a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} from Michael Allen and the turn was the {8-Spades}.

Docherty check-called 5,500 and the river was the {7-Spades}

Docherty checked once more and Allen thought before moving all in. Docherty snapped him off.

"King-high spades?" asked Allen, with Docherty showing {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for a jack-high flush. Allen open-mucked {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Docherty doubles up.

Jordon Eliminated by Jelinek

The flop was {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Steve Jelinek checked. Shaun Walsh bet 3,000 and Terry Jordon called.

Jelinek check-raised all in, covering both opponents. Walsh folded and Jordon thought before slamming his stack in to make the call for his last 30,000.

Terry Jordon: {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Steve Jelinek: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

It was the battle of the draws, with Jordon's straight draw up against Jelinek's flush draw. Jordon got to his feet and left the tournament area after the {7-Clubs} turn left him drawing dead, with the {4-Clubs} completing the board.

Cards were on their backs in a massive all-in between Jack Allen and Waheed Ashraf.

Allen held {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} but was up against Ashraf's {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

The flop came {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Spades} and the turn {8-Spades} increased the chances of a chop. However the river was the {4-Hearts} and Allen was eliminated.

Action was on a river of {4-Spades}{a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Bhavin Khatri checked to Colin Paddington who bet around 10,000.

"I'm not folding that's for sure," said Khatri as he pondered his decision. He eventually called.

"Two pair," said Paddington and Khatri tabled {a-Spades}{7-Spades} for trip aces and took down the pot.
