Geilich Leads as GUKPT London Main Event Reaches Final Day

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

The largest GUKPT Main Event in history is down to its final day with 33 players still in contention for the GUKPT London title and over £185,000 in prize money that comes with it.

After late registrations were taken into account, the final figure of 702 entries was the largest in the history of the GUKPT, smashing the previous best of 607 set just five months ago.

Leading the 33 survivors is a familiar face in the world of British poker, with Ludovic Geilich bagging 918,000.

Geilich's last cash on the GUKPT was a second-place finish in Edinburgh in September last year for £42,060, and he will be hoping to go one further when play resumes tomorrow.

Other big stacks include Timothy Chung (883,000), Matthew Bonham (874,000) and Lewis Spencer (870,000) who are the only other three players over 800,000.

Missing out on the final day were Grosvenor pros Katie Swift and Richard Trigg along with 2021 National League Champion Euan McNicholas. Bubble boy James Ivall was one of a number of players in a last longer for a GUKPT seat after qualifying online, the last of which still standing being Ciaran McCullagh who bagged 234,000 for Day 3.

The tournament resumes at midday on Sunday, February 6 with the plan to play down to a winner.

Bonham Bounces Back with Flush Over Straight

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Action was on a river of {6-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Spades} with Matthew Bonham having moved all in for 285,000 with just 40,000 in the middle.

His opponent was Alexios Zervos who was in the tank. "I have a straight," he said. "But I'm worried you have the flush.

He eventually called and Bonham showed {k-Spades}{4-Spades} for a flush. Zervos showed {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a jack-high straight — and the ace of spades blocker — and counted out the chips for his opponent.
