Day 1a Completed

Josh Lowing Leads After Day 1a of Hollywood Lawrenceburg

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Day 1a Chip Leader, Josh Lowing
Day 1a Chip Leader, Josh Lowing

Day 1a of the Hollywood Poker Open Season 4 Lawrenceburg Regional Main Event has been completed and the 81 entries for the flight were pared down to just 13.

After 14 levels of play, Josh Lowing bagged the most chips, with a massive 326,500. Nick Guagenti finished in second place, having bagged a healthy 257,500, and then Brad Rhodes finished in third with 126,500.

Other notables to advance to Sunday's Day 2 were Mike McGreevy (122,500) and Mike Scarborough (119,500).

McGreevy was the beneficiary of a triple up during Level 13 with the blinds at 1,000/2,000/300. He was all in with the {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} against the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for one opponent and the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} for Rhodes. The flop, turn, and river produced the {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, and McGreevy scooped the pot.

Notable entrants that fired entries, but failed to make it through the day, included Doug Holland, Ken Moore, and Brandon Wetzel.

Chris Moneymaker is expected to join the fray on Saturday for the second flight and it is looking likely that the prize pool will swell up over the $200,000 guarantee.

Join PokerNews on Saturday as we will bring you all of the Day 1b action, starting at 11:15 a.m. local time.

McGreevy Grabs One

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Mike McGreevy limped from under the gun and Brandon Wetzel raised to 7,300 from the button. Nick Guagenti called from the small blind and McGreevy came along as well. The flop was {4-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and Guagenti and McGreevy each check-called a bet of 8,300 from Wetzel.

The {2-Spades} turn brought three checks and Guagenti led for 5,000 after the {q-Spades} river. McGreevy made the call and Wetzel folded. Guagenti rolled over {a-Spades}{j-Spades}, but McGreevy had him crushed with {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}.

Wetzel was left with approximately 58,000 and would bluff them off on the very next hand and hit the rail.

McGreevy Finds a Triple

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Mike McGreevy opened to 7,800 from under the gun and the player right behind called. Brad Rhodes reraised to 35,000, enough to put both players all in. They both made the call and McGreevy was ahead with {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} against {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} of Rhodes.

The flop was golden for McGreevy, as it came {9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades}. The {7-Hearts} turn left his opponents drawing dead and the {q-Diamonds} river was meaningless as McGreevy just covered that opponent.

Rhodes Again

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

A player raised to 4,000 from the hijack and Brad Rhodes three-bet to 10,750 from the small blind. His opponent called and the flop came {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Both players checked and the {8-Hearts} came on the turn. Rhodes check-called a bet of 15,000. The {9-Diamonds} fell on the river and again Rhodes checked.

His opponent bet 25,000 and Rhodes thought for a short while before eventually making the call. "Good call", his opponent said, flashing the {k-Hearts} as Rhodes tabled {a-Spades}{10-Spades}.
