Welcome to Day 2 of 2019 HPT Ameristar East Chicago Main Event

HPT Trophy
HPT Trophy

At long last, the time has come for the eliminations to be final and the field to be whittled down toward a winner. After four starting flights, Day 2 of Heartland Poker Tour Ameristar East Chicago $1,650 Main Event is here.

Out of 570 entries, 96 were able to punch tickets to Day 2. They'll all combine under one roof for the first time here Monday and play until an official final table has been reached.

Plenty of the Midwest's finest poker players are among those 96. While chip leader Brendan Shiller and other big stacks Craig Casino and Nadya Magnus are in good position, they'll have plenty of competition from the likes of Nick Pupillo, Josh Reichard, Aaron Johnson, Keven Stammen and Kou Vang, among others.

Day 2 play begins at Level 16 (2,500/5,000/5,000) and continues until all but the last nine players have been eliminated. Unlike Day 1s, levels will be an hour apiece now.

Cards are scheduled to fly at 11 a.m. local time here just East of the Windy City. Keep an eye here on PokerNews to see who will emerge as the last nine contenders.

Moon Doubles Big Through Githens

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

With {9-Hearts}{a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} on the felt and over 150,000 already in the pot, Kevin Githens slid all of his chips in from the big blind. Chris Moon was in late position, double-checked his stack and then called it off for around 130,000. He held {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and was ahead against {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. The river was a {6-Diamonds} and he doubled through.

Miller Triples Up as Reichard Takes a Beat

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
John Simon

Cards were already on their backs in a three-way all in at Table 6 when we arrived. Big blind Josh Reichard was leading and covering everyone with {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}, John Simon was all in from middle position with {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and Bryant Miller had the shortest stack and {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} from the button.

The board ran out {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, bringing the bullet Miller needed.

"Side pot, baby," Reichard joked as he snagged a piddling 15,000 or so from Simon.

Pupillo Wins Flip With Ochana

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Nick Pupillo
Nick Pupillo

Brendan Shiller opened for 13,000 in middle position, Nick Pupillo made it 40,000 on his left and Eddie Ochana ripped in from a couple of seats over for about 115,000. Shiller folded but Pupillo quickly called and tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Ochana had the overs with {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} but was left wanting on the {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Spades} runout.
