Verbal, Mistaken Slowroll by Carrales

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante

Daniel Carrales, Ben Keeline and Craig Casino each put in 1,200 preflop to see {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Action checked to Keeline, he bet 1,500, Craig Casino folded and Carrales raised to 3,000. Keeline called, the turn came {J-Spades} and both players checked.

The river came {8-Spades}, Carrales bet 5,000 and Keeline called. "I have two pair," Carrales said.

Keeline tabled {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for two pair and Carrales paused a moment before saying, "Actually, I have a straight."

He tabled {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a queen-high straight and apologized for misreading his hand. He told Keeline it was an honest mistake and he meant no offense.

Sixth Table Opens

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante

Tournament organizers had enough players enter in the last few minutes that they opened a new table without having to pull players from other tables. Ten-handed play is the standard until Day 2 on Sunday at the Golden Gates. Due to the limited space and keeping things the same for all players across the flights, organizers prefer to open new tables when they have enough players on hand.

Jessop Bets Each Street on Raggy Board

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante

Six players limped preflop to see {7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} fall for the flop. Action checked around to Dan Jessop in middle position, he bet 600 and got five calls. The turn came {8-Hearts}, action checked to Jessop and he bet 1,200. Dimitrios Andrianakos, called, Richard Ali called and the blinds released.

The river came {2-Hearts}, Jessop bet 2,200 and both opponents folded. One player at the table groaned, wanting someone to call Jessop's bet.

Get to Know Reigning HPT Player of the Year Aaron Johnson

One of the best stories of 2018 was the incredible year of Minnesota’s Aaron Johnson. Back in May, PokerNews spoke with Johnson about leading the Player of the Year races on both Season 9 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) and Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Season XIV.

Over the next seven months, Johnson maintained his lead on the MSPT, and while he lost the HPT lead for a bit, he ultimately ended with it thanks to a deep run in the season finale. That allowed Johnson to become the first player to ever win POY titles on two different tours in the same year.

For doing so, Johnson won a $10,000 prize package for each tour.

“It feels amazing,” Johnson told PokerNews. “Coming into the year I certainly wanted to make a run at MSPT POY (which has always been a goal of mine), but I never imagined that I’d be in contention for multiple POY titles. To actually achieve it is unreal.”

For more on the reigning HPT POY, check out his full interview here on PokerNews.
