This weekend’s $1,650 Main Event is the culmination of the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) series here at Hollywood St. Louis. There were several prelims going back to last weekend.
One of them was Event #3: $200 7-Game Mix, a tournament that drew 87 players and created a prize pool of $13,920.
Mike Sloan raised to 2,000 from middle position, and it folded around to Jim Fondy who three-bet to 10,000.
The player on the button flat-called, the player in the small blind then shoved for 9,000, and Sloan made the call for the additional 8,000, which created a side pot.
After Sloan checked the flop, Fondy bet 17,000, which prompted folds from the player on the button and Sloan and sent the side pot to Fondy, who tabled for top set.
The player in the small blind then tabled , which showed he was drawing very thin.
The turn and river were of no help and sent him to the rail.
