Keller Leads After Day 1c, Bazeley Near the Top

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
David Keller
David Keller

The final starting flight has drawn to a close in the Heartland Poker Tour $1,100 Main Event at Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg. With 47 players moving on from Day 1c, David Keller will return for Day 2 with the overall chip lead and 516,000 chips.

Keller remained patient throughout most of the day and timed his spots perfectly. Twice, he picked up pocket aces and got max value, tripling up one time and doubling up another. Keller managed to take over the chip lead in the latter stages of the last level as the only player over 500,000 chips.

A few more of the big stacks to move on from Day 1c include Ronnie Day (516,000), Jake Bazeley (455,000), Iverson Snuffer (431,000), and John Nelson (342,000). Bazeley is the most notable of the remaining players left in the field with over $4.4 million in career earnings. The Cincinnati native lives just a short drive away from Lawrenceburg, Indiana and is looking to pocket yet another six-figure score to add to his resume.

The ballroom on the bottom floor of the casino was packed with poker players right from the start of the day. Over 80 players took their seats when the action kicked off at 12pm. The tournament staff had their hands full trying to open more tables to keep up with the number of entries throughout the registration period. When late registration closed, there were a total of 293 entries for Day 1c.

That brought the total to 555 entries for the Main Event, which more than doubled the guaranteed prizepool of $250,000. When the players return for Day 2 tomorrow, there will be $532,800 up for grabs with 63 places getting paid. There will be 86 players returning on Sunday all looking to get their hands on some cash.

There was no shortage of action in the early going today, with two eliminations occurring in the first 10 minutes of play. David Worden was the beneficiary of one those player's starting stacks but he was unable to hold on to those chips long enough to find a bag. Some other names to hit the rail include Greg Raymer, Bruce Hugon, Michael Shanahan, and James Pupillo.

Some other notables that were fortunate enough to bag up chips include Ian Richardson (224,000), Henry Zou (187,000), Nick Pupillo (183,000), Nick Guagenti (153,000), Kyle Besaw (129,000), and the Stammen brothers Matthew (148,000) and Keven (61,000).

The action will resume at 11am on Sunday with just over 20 eliminations away from the money. The blinds will begin at 2,500/5,000 with a 5,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue at 40-minutes in length and the schedule is to play down to the final nine players.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back to bring you all of the live updates throughout the Main Event.

All Four Kings for Besaw

Level 13 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Kyle Besaw
Kyle Besaw

Kyle Besaw opened to 6,000 from early position and was called by George Jansen in the small blind and James Wright in the big blind. The flop came {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{j-Spades} and the action checked around to the {q-Hearts} on the turn.

Jansen and Wright checked again but Besaw tossed in a bet of 10,000 this time. Both of his opponents called and the {9-Hearts} completed the board. Jansen and Wright knuckled the table once more and Besaw bet 25,000. Jansen called and Wright quickly folded.

"I have quad kings," Besaw announced as he tabled {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

"That's a good hand," Jansen responded as he sent his cards to the muck.

Bazeley Straightens Out Pupillo

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Jake Bazeley
Jake Bazeley

On a flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}, Jake Bazeley checked from the blinds to James Pupillo who bet 4,000 in position. Bazeley check-raised to 11,000 and Pupillo quickly stuck in all of his chips. Bazeley called off his stack of 35,800 and the cards were tabled.

Jake Bazeley: {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}
James Pupillo: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Bazeley flopped a straight but Pupillo had outs to a higher straight. However, the {6-Hearts} on the turn and the {2-Hearts} on the river changed nothing as Bazeley found a double up.

Treat Wins a Flip

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Kelly Treat
Kelly Treat

Kelly Treat was down to half her starting stack and she pushed all in for 14,700 from under the gun. Alim Butler gave her some action when he tossed in a single chip from middle position.

Kelly Treat: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Alim Butler: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

It was a coin flip for all of Treat's chips and the flop of {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts} provided no help thus far. The {6-Hearts} on the turn gave Treat a flush draw and the {5-Hearts} on the river completed her flush to score a double up.

Worden Off to a Hot Start

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
David Worden
David Worden

David Worden has had a dream start to his Main Event through the opening level, having already more than doubled his starting stack. Within the first few hands, Worden was the beneficiary of a full double up, sending one opponent to the rail in a matter of minutes.

One orbit later, Worden got paid off when he went runner-runner quads and he just recently picked up another pot. Three players saw a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} and the action checked to Worden on the button who bet 700. Stephen Hyvonen called from the small blind along with James McClurg in the cutoff.

The turn was the {4-Hearts} and Hyvonen chose to lead out for 1,100. McClurg min-raised to 2,200 and both Worden and Hyvonen called. The river was the {j-Clubs} and all three players knuckled the table. Hyvonen tabled {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, McClurg showed {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, and Worden was awarded the pot with {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}.

The Final Starting Flight Kicks Off at 12pm

HPT Lawrenceburg
HPT Lawrenceburg

The $250,000 guaranteed prizepool for the Heartland Poker Tour Lawrenceburg $1,100 Main Event has already been reached and the largest starting flight is still on the schedule. Day 1c is about to get underway at 12pm inside the ballroom at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

The first two flights saw a total of 262 entries take to the felt with 39 players already moving on to Day 2. After roughly another 12 hours of poker today, the survivors will join those already through to Day 2 on Sunday. For those that make it through, the money bubble will be on the horizon and something to look forward to.

A regular on the HPT, Timothy Burden currently has the overall chip lead with 417,000 after an impressive Day 1b. Burden used a combination of table talk and his poker skills to rattle his opponents and finish on top last night. Many of the bigger names failed to find a bag but will have one last chance to do so today.

When the cards first get in the air, players will begin with 30,000 starting chips with the blinds at 100/100. The blind levels will be 40-minutes in length with a 15-minute break after every three levels. There are a total of 15 levels on tap for today with a 60-minute dinner break scheduled for after level nine.

The players will have the option of unlimited re-entries with the late registration period open until after the dinner break. That should lead to plenty of action in the opening levels as players look to run up a stack early on.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day.
