Jones Cooked By Hoang; Chip Counts from Table 9

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Tan Hoang
Tan Hoang

Noomis Jones raised to 9,000 from under the gun and was called by Syd Masters in the hijack. Action folded around to Tan Hoang, who three-bet to 27,000. Jones then four-bet all in over the top of Hoang, prompting a fold from Masters. Hoang looked back at his cards to make sure he had what he thought he did and quickly announced a call, tabling his hand immediately thereafter.

Noomis Jones: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Tan Hoang: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}

Hoang had Jones covered by a bit and was way out in front with the opportunity at a huge knockout. The flop came {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{a-Clubs} to give Hoang top set and secure the knockout as the turn {10-Hearts} and river {q-Spades} sealed the deal, sending Jones to the rail and making Hoang one of the two largest stacks in the room as the penultimate level of play looks to come to a close.

Aces Good To Frei Again

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Fred Ertl raised to 8,000 from under the gun and was three-bet to 27,000 by Aaron Frei out of the hijack Steve Wilkie cold-called from the cutoff and all remaining players behind folded, including Ertl.

The flop came {k-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Frei made a continuation-bet of 27,000. Wilkie called.

Frei checked the turn {k-Hearts} and called a bet of 40,000 from Wilkie. The river then came {4-Spades} and Frei check-called another 40,000 from Wilkie.

WIlkie tabled {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for an ace on top of the board's pair of kings, having turned a flush draw and failed to complete. Frei then showed {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and took down the pot with aces up, winning what was the largest pot of the night to date and vaulting up to take a sizeable chip lead with just over an hour of play left in the day.

Meanwhile, Robert Goldstein was eliminated on the other table by Tan Hoang after shoving around 18 big blinds from middle position with {a-}{j-}, running into Hoang's {a-}{k-} and not improving to become the 20th place finisher on Day 1a.

Goldstein Holds To Double

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante
Robert Goldstein
Robert Goldstein

Robert Goldstein went all in from the cutoff for his last 29,000 or so and was called by Ben Keeline out of the button.

Robert Goldstein: {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Ben Keeline: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts}, giving Keeline a sweat at counterfeiting Goldstein's pair of deuces after the turn brought a pair of fives. However, Goldstein both held and improved to a flush along the way and now finds himself with over 20 big blinds in his stack.

Beauprez Eliminates Jensen

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante
John Beauprez
John Beauprez

An all in and a call were heard and Ben Jensen had gotten his stack all in from middle position with action from John Beauprez, who was on the button.

Ben Jensen: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
John Beauprez: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The two were off to the races as the flop came {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, leaving Jensen in still need of hitting an ace or king. Unfortunately for him, the turn {j-Hearts} gave Beauprez a full house and left Jensen drawing dead as the river {10-Spades} fell to complete the runout, sending him to the rail with around 15 minutes left in Level 13.

Nguyen Eliminated; Wilkie and Gutierrez Chop

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante

Khoa Nguyen went all in for his last 1,500 from under the gun and saw Steve Wilkie raise to 10,000. Fred Ertl was on the button and called, as did Zach Gutierrez from the small blind.

With three players in contention for the side pot, the flop came {9-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. Gutierrez was first to act and thought for close to a minute before betting 20,000. Action was then on Wilkie, who clicked it back with a raise to 40,000. Ertl folded and Gutierrez went all in, with Wilkie immediately calling.

Khoa Nguyen: {2-Clubs}{6-Clubs}
Zach Gutierrez: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Steve Wilkie: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The turn and river ran out {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and Nguyen found himself eliminated from the tournament while Gutierrez and Wilkie chopped his and Ertl's investments into the pot.

Khoa Nguyen opened to 6,000 from middle position and was three-bet to 16,000 by Aaron Frei out of the cutoff. Action folded back to Nguyen and he called.

The flop fell {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and Nguyen checked. Frei made a continuation-bet of another 16,000 and Nguyen check-raised all in. Frei instantly called.

Khoa Nguyen: {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Aaron Frei: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Frei's aces were ahead and in need of holding against Nguyen's open-ended straight draw. The turn came {q-Diamonds}, giving him one more card to sweat. The river then fell {3-Spades} and Frei's stack was counted out to be 70,500. Nguyen paid him off leaving himself just 1,500 behind as Frei now finds himself with a comfortable stack as play moves into the final two hours of the evening.
