Monroe Wins Three-Way Preflop All In

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Rich Monroe
Rich Monroe

Matt Livingston was seen standing up to sweat a runout as his chips were all in the middle before the flop. He was in the small blind and was only one of three players whose hands were tabled. The other two were Rich Monroe, who was on the button and also all in, and Jason Su, who had given both players action.

Matt Livingston: {a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Rich Monroe: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Jason Su: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The flop came {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Diamonds} to give Livingston four outs at a triple. However, the turn {10-Spades} and river {k-Spades} were clean to Monroe as he won both pots, bringing him over 200,000 as he sent Livingston to the rail early on Day 2.

Martinez Rips the Flop

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Action folded around to Cy Church, who completed his small blind. Anthony Martinez then raised his option to 13,000 and Church called.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Church checked. Martinez went all in for about 40,000 and Church sent his cards to the muck.

Despite a few eliminations to start the day, there has been a theme of all-in bets not being called early on Day 2 here inside the Golden Gates Poker Parlour.

Moon Gets One Through

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Nick Pupillo opened to 12,000 from middle position and was three-bet all in by Chris Moon, who was in the hijack. Dapo Ajayi was in the cutoff and asked for a count, which was totaled to be 53,000.

Ajayi went deep into the tank and eventually folded, triggering a series of folds behind. Pupillo then confirmed the amount and folded.

Ajayi told Pupillo afterward that his open had scared him out of a call, earning Moon the pot without a showdown. Meanwhile, the first 25 minutes of play has been kind to Ajayi, seeing him double his stack. It has not been as fun for Pupillo, who is below 200,000.

Sherry Hits a Straight; Hoang Dusts Tito

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

There was a pot of around 70,000 with a board reading {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{k-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Michael Sherry had a bet of 31,000 in front of him from the button. Action was back on Omar Morillo, who was in the small blind.

Morillo went into the tank for close to two full minutes before putting out chips to call.

Sherry tabled {j-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a straight and Morillo sent his cards to the muck.

Meanwhile, Tan Hoang eliminated Michael Tito on an adjacent table. The two got stacks in on the turn with a board of {3-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{k-Spades} with Tito in the big blind and Hoang on the button.

Michael Tito: {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Tan Hoang: {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Tito was unable to hit his straight draw or two pair outs as the river came {7-Spades} and he was sent to the rail as one of the early casualties on Day 2.

Welcome To Day 2 of HPT Golden Gates

Nick Pupillo
Nick Pupillo

Welcome back to beautiful Black Hawk Colorado for Day 2 of the Heartland Poker Tour Golden Gates $1,650 Main Event. Three starting flights produced 412 entries, with 71 advancing to Day 2 action over the last three days. Now, it’s finally time for the field to combine and play together under one roof.

Of the 71 to return, 45 will earn themselves a payday. That mean the bubble will loom early in the day, with a subsequent first-level payout earning $3,297. Players will then climb the rungs of the payout ladder with their sights set on the top prize of $137,876.

David Levy (424,000) will take the most chips into play on Day 2 after bagging the chip lead on Day 1c Saturday evening. Day 1a chip leader Aaron Frei (408,000) is the only other player to enter play with over 400,000.

Plenty of formidable opponents remain and come into the day with above-average chip stacks. Danny Gonzales (306,000), Nick Pupillo (254,000), Greg Jennings (245,000), Kane Lai (242,000), and Spencer Champlin (227,000) are just a few bunched together with healthy stacks among the Day 2 roster.

Others such as Dapo Ajayi (81,000), Ronnie Lamb (77,000), Ben Keeline (72,000), and Chris Moon (55,000) are also still in contention, though they will have a bit more work cut out for them when cards go into the air.

Day 2 is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start time. Levels will last 60 minutes each with play resuming at the beginning of Level 16 (2,000/5,000/5,000). There will be 15-minute breaks every two hours and a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth hour of play on the day, with play continuing until the final nine are reached.

Who will make it to the final table? Stay tuned to PokerNews and find out.
