Whyte Hits Perfect River
There were 135,000 chips in the middle in a heads up pot between Robert McDowell in early position and Jamie Whyte in the cutoff. McDowell checked on the 3♣4♠2♠ flop, after which Whyte made a bet of 40,000. McDowell made the call and the 4♠ was turned.
Another check followed from McDowell and Whyte bet 75,000 chips this time. McDowell spent a few minutes in the tank before complying with a call, after which the A♠ river completed the board.
After a third check from McDowell, Whyte shipped all in for his remaining 135,000 chips and received a snap call from his opponent. McDowell showed 5♦5♣ for the rivered straight, but it was no good against the A♥4♥ of Whyte, who rivered a full house.
McDowell was left with just 7,000 chips, but he doubled up twice in the next two hands to still be in contention for the title.
