PokerNews' Lukas Robinson Finds Bag on Day 1c of Galway Poker Festival Main Event

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Lukas Robinson

Day 1c of the Galway Poker Festival Main Event turned out to be the busiest so far, sporting 165 entries on the clock at the end of the late registration. One of them was PokerNews' very own Lukas "RobinPoker" Robinson, and he would be one of the 37 players who found a bag at the end of the 15 played levels.

Robinson bagged a below-average stack of 166,000 chips, equating to 21 big blinds at the start of play on Day 2 which is scheduled to take place at The Galmont Hotel & Spa Sunday, January 7 at noon. The poker streamer, who recently starred in the popular poker show Game of Gold, has his work cut out for him when he returns, but the same can not be said for Day 1c chipleader Stephen Henderson.

Henderson amassed 520,000 chips throughout the day, seeing him land on the top spot of the leaderboard at the end of the night. Henderson is followed by China's Yue Wang, who bagged just shy of half a million chips (496,000). Shean Lai, meanwhile, completes the top three with a stack of 480,000, while regulars Andrew Hedley (414,000) and Simon Wilson (354,000) also found themselves in the top ten at the end of Day 1c.

Other notables who made it through Day 1c include Ian Gascoigne (229,000), Irish Poker Tour Champion Liam McVeigh (215,000), and Italian regular Ivan Tononi (170,000). Less lucky were the likes of recent EPT Prague Champion Padraig O'Neill, Paddy Power Poker's Tom Parsons, and Irish Poker Tour Ambassadors Dara O'Kearney and Paul Monaghan, who all fizzled out at one point or another.

The Main Event is not over yet, however, as three more starting flights will take place tomorrow, Saturday, January 6. Day 1d will commence at noon, while another evening flight is planned at 5 p.m. with Day 1e. For those who want to play a faster structure, there will be Day 1f at 10 p.m. local time, which bears 15-minute levels. All remaining flights will complete 15 levels before they reach their completion. The €300,000 guaranteed prize pool has not been met yet, so expect some big fields tomorrow.

Tune back in to PokerNews then to see how the remainder of the starting flights play out, and who makes it to Day 2 to battle for Irish Poker Tour glory.

Robinson Unlucky in Dying Minutes

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Lukas Robinson open-raised from the cutoff before being faced with a three-bet jam for 86,000 from big blind Ivan Tononi. Robinson put in the extra chips with the covering stack and a showdown was had.

Ivan Tononi: A7
Lukas Robinson: A9

The 452 brought some chop outs for Tononi, but it was the 7 turn that saw him soar into the lead. The 4 river did not change anything, resulting in him doubling up during the final few hands of Day 1c.

Wilson Wins Late Flip

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Simon Wilson
Simon Wilson

Terence Ponsonby open-jammed for 94,000 chips from middle position, and the action folded to Simon Wilson in the hijack. Wilson asked for a count before going into the tank for a minute or two.

Eventually he rejammed for 127,000, receiving folds from all other players at the table.

Terence Ponsonby: 55
Simon Wilson: AJ

Wilson paired his jack on the 37J flop to take a big lead, and the 7 turn erased any runner-runner outs for Ponsonby. The Q river did not bring him a full house, and he headed towards the exit as Wilson chipped up to an above-average stack.

Yehong Yields in Final Level

Level 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

David Costello had open-raised preflop from early position, after which Luo Yehong got his stack of roughly 50,000 chips in from the cutoff. The action folded back to Costello, who made the call to put Yehong at risk.

Luo Yehong: 88
David Costello: KJ

The 22Q flop was safe for Yehong, but the K turn paired Costello's king and he jumped into the lead. The 7 river sealed Yehong's fate, and he took his exit just before the end of Day 1c.
