MacDonnell Leads After Cracking Wedde's Aces
Level 23
: Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Several T-100,000 chips were already in the pot when Gunnar Wedde's 825,000 remaining chips went in from early position on the J♦6♦3♣10♣ turn. His opponent was Marc MacDonnell, who had the covering stack and looked him up.
Gunnar Wedde: A♥A♣
Marc MacDonnell: Q♦3♦
Wedde was in the lead with his overpair, but MacDonnell had a pair and a flush draw for outs on the river. The 8♦ fell on the river and Wedde let out a groan as MacDonnell's flush draw came in.
He had no option but to collect his payout while MacDonnell soared in the ranks and grabbed the chip lead with a stack of more than 100 big blinds.
