Welcome to the 2010 PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Florianopolis!

Although the weather here in Florianopolis, Brazil has been a little on the miserable side with plenty of swirling clouds and buckets of rain, both players, media members and poker staff are now rife with excitement as the inaugural LAPT Florianopolis is soon to begin.

Poker returns to Brazil in a big way for Season 3 of the LAPT, as this beautiful country went without a stop last season after Rio de Janeiro hosted the season finale in the inaugural year.

Following a few weeks of rest since the World Series of Poker wrapped up, South American, North American and International stars have arrived to contest the event here at the Costao de Santinho Resort .

From reigning World Champion Joe Cada, Brazilians Andre Akkari, Gualter Salles and Maridu Mayrinck, Mexicans Angel Gullen and Christian de Leon along with Costa Rican Humberto Brenes, many have made the trip to Florianopolis combined with a variety of local tournament veterans, satellite entrants and those amateurs looking to mix it up with the best!

However the one player all will be looking to hunt down is Jose "Nacho" Barbero who is fresh off back-to-back LAPT victories in Punta del Este and Lima, and with the help of some timely luck, skill and poise, will be looking to add a third title to his already impressive record.

Play is set to begin at 12:00pm BRT, so stay tuned to PokerNews for the exclusive coverage of every animated celebration, emotional-scarring elimination and thrilling double from the 2010 LAPT Florianopolis Main Event!

Overflow?

Currently there are thirty tables situated in the main tournament room, but thankfully the LAPT staff have organised an overflow area just a short walk away.

With over twenty people still in the line to register, the overflow area consists of twelve tables.

At the moment, most of them are empty, but will soon shortly be filled to see this event easily reach the 400-player maximum.

The Champ Is Off to a Solid Start

Joe Cada
Joe Cada

Seeing as the WSOP Main Event doesn't conclude until November when the final nine return to play down to a winner, Team PokerStars Pro Joe Cada is still the defending champion.

Cada is down here in Brazil for the LAPT Florianopolis event looking to pad his resume and he's already up to 30,000 in chips from the 20,000-chip starting stack. Within the first couple minutes of the day, Cada made a full house with {Q-}{10-} after flopping three tens and turning a queen to take a nice pot off his opponent.
