2011 LAPT Brazil
Foster Toying with Nadal
It was a rare bit of table talk that your humble reporter could understand. Bruno Foster opened with a pre-flop raise from the button that small blind Santiego Nadal three-bet. Foster responded with more aggression and put in another raise.
"You have ace-king," said Nadal.
"Is that your read?" replied Foster. "Maybe, maybe not."
"You have ace-king, I know you do."
"You have jacks?" replied Foster. "Or worse."
Nadal finally folded what he said were tens. Foster showed ace-king.
Can Anyone Stop Bauer?
Leandro Csome has been running neck and neck with Joao Bauer for a few hours but it looks like Bauer is starting to pull away. Bauer is up to 1,170,000 after eliminating a short stack in a hand that played more rapidly than one would expect. Sitting in the big blind, Bauer called his opponent's pre-flop raise to 24,000, then checked a flop. His opponent bet 25,000, prompting Bauer to quickly announce, "All in."
"OK," said his opponent, without much thought. He opened for a pair of jacks; Bauer showed for kings and fives. The turn and river were both 7s, and , but that didn't stop the pot from being pushed to Bauer with kings and sevens.
Campos Out
PokerStars qualifier Neuri Jose Campos was all in with against the two queens for Alex Manzano. An ace came in the window, which sent Campos celebrating behind the table, but a queen followed quickly after and from there Manzano's set held up. Campos hit the rail while Manzano collected a nice pot to push himself at right around seven figures.
Short-Stacked Plaza Flops Great Against Nadal
We came to Cesar Plaza's table in time to see him move all in on the turn of a . The amount of his bet was 78,000. Santiego Nadal, out of position against Plaza, opted to look Plaza up with top pair, . He was drawing only to chop outs against Plaza's Broadway straight, . The river did not bring a chop.
Plaza is up to about 270,000 while Nadal is back to 500,000.
Portaleoni Shoves River on Pereira
From middle position, Jorge Pereira limped in. Rodrigo Portaleoni raised from the button to 23,000 and after the blind folded, Pereira made the call.
The flop came down and both players checked to see the pair the board on the turn. Pereira fired 25,000 and Portaleoni made the call.
The river was the and Pereira checked with exactly 100,000 behind. Portaleoni announced that he was all in. With a shake of his head and a flick of the wrist, Pereira gave it up.
Portaleoni moved to 230,000 in chips.
Zervos Misses Draw Against Manzano's Top Set
On the the flop of , Alexis Zervos and Alex Manzano got all the money into the middle. Manzano had flopped top set with pocket kings and Zervos held the for the nut flush draw. The turn and river blanked and that was the end of the line for Zervos. Manzano improved to 920,000 in chips.

Tournament Lesson: Protect Your Hand or You'll Be Eliminated
There seems to have been a bit of controversy out on the tournament floor and, well, it wouldn't be a poker tournament without some controversy.
What we gather is that Leandro Csome raised and Gustavo Prato moved all in from the small blind. The player that moved all in had his chips up to the betting line and his cards sitting next to them. The player in the big blind announced a fold and the dealer swiped both the big blind's cards and Prato's cards. Csome made the call and tabled his hand as it was all he had to do to win the pot because Prato didn't have a hand as the dealer had accidentally mucked it.
The incident was explained to the floor staff in a few languages, English, Spanish and Portuguese, before a ruling was made. The ruling was that the all-in Prato's hand was mucked and he was therefore eliminated from the tournament with Csome winning the pot. The reasons for this were that Prato's hand had been mixed in with other cards and he did not protect his hand.
Prato attempted to plead his case, but the ruling stood, as the tournament staff explained to the player that he must protect his hand at all times and that mistakes can happen. This also brought up the question that what if Csome hadn't made the call and simply just mucked to give Prato the hand? According to tournament director Mike Ward, it would have been "fair" for Csome to do so and allowed, but nothing can be done after the fact.
