Oded on Life Support

We recently stumbled upon a hand with Oded Minond, who if you recall was the final-table bubble boy of the Punta del Este Main Event. We're not sure of the action, but there was around 3,200 in the pot and a flop of {Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. Minond had 2,100 committed to the pot, while his opponent had 4,200 out in front of him.

Minond was facing a min-raise, but the problem was he only had 3,600 behind. Calling the min-raise constituted the majority of his stack, so it was essentially a decision for his tournament life. He thought long and hard before rapping the table and giving up on the hand.

Kings Checked Down

A middle-position player raised to 700 and found a caller in the form of Engelberth Varela in the hijack. The big blind then exercised his option with a three-bet to 2,000, which both his opponents called. All three players proceeded to check every street as the board ran out {10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}.

The big blind was first to show and flipped up {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The rest of the table let out a collective laugh, most likely wondering why he would check down such a powerful hand. Nonetheless, it was good as both the MP player and Varela mucked. The latter is still flying high however, sitting on a stack of 48,000.

Gonzalez Gets No Action

After a player in middle position opened to 600, Pablo Gonzalez three-bet to 1,650 from the hijack. Action folded around to the raiser who called, landing a {K-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Spades} flop to the board.

It was checked to Gonzalez who bet 2,150, leading to a quick fold from his opponent. Gonzalez would have preferred a call, flashing {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} as he collected the pot.

Akkari Flashes Big Slick

Action folded to an unknown player in the hijack and he put out a bet of 600. The small blind made the call, putting action on Andre Akkari in the big blind. The Brazilian pro must have liked all that money out there as he put out a decent-sized raise to 2,200. The original raiser gave it some thought, ultimately folding his hand, and the small blind quickly followed suit.

Akkari took down the pot uncontested and flash a smile . . . along with his {A-}{K-}. Akkari is up to 31,000.

Gonzalez in a Holding Pattern

Pablo Gonzalez
Pablo Gonzalez

With about 3,000 in the pot and a board reading {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, an early-position player checked to Pablo Gonzalez, who threw out a bet of 2,000. The EP player quickly folded and Gonzalez picked up the small pot. Gonzalez has been mixing it up here in the early levels, but he seems to be holding steady right around 17,000 . . . which is better than losing we suppose.

Honeybone Doubles

James Honeybone
James Honeybone

We caught the very end of the hand as the chips were being pushed to James Honeybone, but he secured an early double in Level 3.

With {4-Spades}{3-Spades}, Honeybone must have been quite pleased to see a {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop. We're not sure when the chips got in, or what he was facing, but following the {3-Clubs} turn and {9-Hearts} river, Honeybone's straight was good to up his stack back to about 15,000.
