An Orbit with Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

We just watched a full orbit up at Daniel Negreanu's table. When the orbit began, the Team PokerStars Pro had 57,600 in chips. Things started off pretty promising, as Negreanu was involved in three out of the first four hands, but after that it cooled off a bit with Negreanu folding the last five hands. Here's what happened.

On the first hand we watched, Negreanu was in the big blind to start. A player in middle position limped in for 1,000 and the small blind completed the bet. Negreanu put in a raise from the big blind to 4,500 and won the pot.

On the next hand, action folded to Marcelo Dabus in the cutoff seat and he raised to 2,400. Negreanu three-bet from the small blind to 5,700, much like he did a little while ago when he ended up doubling Dabus. This time, no one wanted to play any further with Negreanu and they all folded to him preflop.

On the third hand of the orbit, Negreanu folded along with everyone else to a shove from the under-the-gun player.

On the fourth hand, the hijack seat raised to 2,200, Negreanu called from the cutoff seat and the big blind called. The flop came down {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and action checked to the preflop raiser. He bet 3,200, Negreanu called and the big blind check-raised all in for 11,100. The hijack seat called and then Negreanu folded.

The big blind showed the {J-Spades}{10-Clubs} and the hijack seat the {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. The turn was the {4-Hearts} and river the {7-Diamonds} to give the big blind the double up.

From there, Negreanu folded the next five hands to complete the orbit and move back into the big blind.

Negreanu Rides Dabus To a Double

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Action folded to Marcelo Dabus in the cutoff seat and he opened to 2,400. Two seats over, Team PokerStars Pro's Daniel Negreanu reraised to 5,700. The big blind folded and then Dabus made the call.

The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Negreanu bet 5,000 with 15,000 behind. Dabus took a minute and then raised to put Negreanu all in. With a quick shrug, Negreanu tossed the rest of his chips in. He held the {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and was up against the {J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for Dabus.

The turn gave Negreanu top set with the {A-Hearts} falling, but Dabus did have a heart draw that kept him alive with chances to win the hand. Hitting a heart on the river would send Negreanu to the rail as Dabus had him covered.

The river completed the board with the {J-Clubs} and Negreanu finished with a full house to beat Dabus' trip jacks. Negreanu doubled up and now has over 53,000 in chips.

Brenes Knocked Down a Peg

Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

We can't be sure when the money got all in; it was some point post-flop, but that's as close as we can get. However it happened, it did not go well for Humberto Brenes. When we walked up to the table, the Team PokerStars Pro was counting out the debt that he needed to pay the gentleman who'd just doubled through him.

Brenes was showing {A-Spades} {J-Spades}, but his opponent's {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} was the best hand on the {Q-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {J-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} board. With about 20,000 in the pot already and another 31,500 leaving him after the double, Brenes has been knocked back to about 79,000 — still well above the chip average.

Ramos Reaping the Benefits

Felipe Ramos
Felipe Ramos

Felipe Ramos is a local from here in São Paulo, and he's taken it upon himself to show us a good time in his city. "Mojave" was one of the ones responsible for a late night out in Vila Madalena this time yesterday.

Good things happen when you show the poker media a good time.

Ramos has been biding his time admirably today, picking his spots and making mostly good decisions, it appears. A moment ago, his chip stack received a big boost when he and an opponent built a pot of more than 50,000 going to the river. On the last card of the wet, king-high board, Ramos shoved in, and his opponent tank-folded with some reservation.

Ramos is closing in on the century mark now; we eyeball him at about 96,000 as he stacks up that pot.

Csome with None

Last year's fifth-place finisher, Leandro Csome, has been eliminated. His {A-}{K-} went down to an opponent's {A-}{Q-} after a queen hit on the river. All of the money went in preflop.
