Dmitry Varlamov opened for the second time in a row to 250, after failing to win the first one. He would get some resistance as his 250 raise was called by the cutoff, button, and big blind.
Everyone checked to the button on 
and that player bet out 500. Both the big blind and Varlamov folded, but Andrei Vikarev in the cutoff made the call. Vikarev check called another 1,300 bet on the 
-turn, and the 
hit the river.
Vikarev checked for the third time, and his opponent reluctantly checked behind after some thinking. Vikarev showed 
and his neighbor mucked.

The Live Events International organization guaranteed a staggering $1,000,000 in prize money for the entire 2014 Cyprus Poker Open festival this week. $200,000 of that million was the guarantee for the Main Event which started yesterday. Well, director Mike Peltekci doesn't have to worry about putting some of his own money up as the prize pool is already closing in to $300,000. A total of 51 entries have been made so far today, making for a total of 223 total.

We're not sure what happened, but the first player has been elininated today. He of course has the option to re enter straight away, or he can go take some rest, think about everything that went wrong, and buy in again later today. Or, if he really feels like it, he can enter tomorrow morning on Day 2.
We are sure it's a 'he' by the way, no ladies have entered so far today.
The 2014 Cyprus Live Events International is a true festival of poker tournaments. It all started August 1st, and runs until August 12th. There have been a lot of different events, including 6-max tournaments, an Iron Man tournament without any breaks, a "Crazy Open Rebuy" tournament, and a freeroll to the Main Event satellite.
But there's more than just poker to be played this week. A lot of the players brought their family to the beautiful Noah's Ark Resort, and there are a lot of activities for everyone. Not only is there a water park on the resort, and are their tennis courts, numerous huge pools and a sandy beach to enjoy, the Live Events International organization also organized activities for the players. Besides a big party and a concert last night, the players were challenged to partake in a soccer match, a volleyball match, and as we speak a lot of the players who played yesterday are playing basketball.
So you see, it's not just poker here this week in North Cyprys!

Aleksandr Pak and Sergey Bagirov are back today and are taking another shot at it.
Pak had 140,000 in chips at one point yesterday, making him the chip leader of the tournament at the time. It didn't last though, he busted before the day was done.
Bagirov won the $400 Rolex Turkiye Poker Kupasi event earlier this festival. He took home $19,141 for that win, and he'll try to win some more here by going deep in the Main Event.

We're not exactly sure what happened just now, but one of the players got a one round penalty. We saw the Swiss player in the big blind check raise a 700 bet on 
to 1,600 from the big blind. The player made the call, and called the 2,000 bet on the 
-turn and 5,200 allin on the 
-river as well. The player who check-raised and bet the turn and river showed 
and his opponent mucked. The player than said something in his own language, and all of the sudden the floor was called over and the player received a penalty. We're not sure what happened, but it's the first penalty we've seen so far this event.

The first Dutch player has made his entrance. Jorn Walthaus, well known within the Dutch poker community, just took his seat and received 30,000 in chips. Walthaus, who made a deep run in the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2013 (26th for $285,408), is entry number 74 for the day.

Sergey Rybachenko, one of the most well known Russian players on the international poker circuit, just sat down in the Live Events International Main Event.
Rybachenko, the number 18 on the all time Russian money list with $1,282,921 in live tournament earnings, is all too familiar with the beautiful island of Cyprus. He has 23 cashes in here, with his win in the $10,000 Six Max Super High Roller for $100,800 here last year as his biggest score.
