Mantas Petrauskas Finishes in Pole Position in Day 1f of MPF Grand Event

The final starting flight of the Malta Poker Festival Spring €550 Grand Event at Portomaso Casino, Malta is in the books in controversial circumstances.

The final starting flight, saw 69 players enter with 18 of those making it through to Day 2 on Sunday, May 1.

Mantas Petrauskas of Lithuania was the chip leader of day 1f. Petrauskas kept his cool despite the hostility in the room to bag 434,000 chips. Earlier in the day, he tangled with Colin Paddington who had an interesting day.

Paddington had three bullets at day 1f and had two bust-outs in the first level which left players on his table open-mouthed.

In one of the hands of the tournament so far Kevin Houghton hit a straight flush to treble up and eliminating his travel partner and friend Gary Whitehead.

273 players will return to Portomaso Casino on Sunday, May 1 to compete for the massive €486,720 prize pool. There is still plenty of action to be had with three side events on Sunday including the €1,100 MPF Highroller tournament.

Sick Cooler Trebles Houghton and Eliminates Gary Whitehead

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante
Lars Viggander
Lars Viggander

Gary Whitehead bet 1200 from middle position, Kevin Houghton called from the small blind. The action moved to Lars Viggander who three-bet to 3,500. Both Whitehead and Houghton called.

The flop of {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds} sparked fireworks. Whitehead bet 5,000 and was called by Houghton. Viggander ripped it all-in for 60,000 and was called by Whitehead and Houghton.

Gary Whitehead: {10-Spades}{9-Spades}
Kevin Houghton: {5-Spades}{6-Spades}
Lars Viggander: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Viggander was in the lead with a set of tens, but both Whitehead and Houghton had open-ended straight flush draws.

The {4-Clubs} on the turn gave Houghton the straight to take the lead. The river {4-Spades} prompted Viggander to celebrate as he hit a full house, he soon realized that Houghton improved to a straight flush to treble-up.

This eliminated Houghton's travel partner Whitehead and left Viggander with a short stack.

Paddington Busts in Record Time

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante
Colin Paddington
Colin Paddington

Colin Paddington bet 400 from under the gun. Alexandra O'Brien (button) raised to 2,200 and Elmar Schuetz (big blind) bet 6,000.

Paddington exclaimed, "I wasn't expecting that. Fuck it I'm all in!" O'Brien folded and Schultz snap-called.

Colin Paddington: {q-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Elmar Schultz: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The {6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop gave Paddington a pair, but the {7-Hearts} turn and {6-Hearts} river were no help. Schuetz scoops in a massive pot early.

The rest of the table looked shell-shocked at the reckless abandon of Paddington who indicated he would fire another bullet.
