No Bubble - Sukru Cracks Cowboys to Bust Hayes; Mortensen Goes Runner-Runner to Bust Giudice

Level 15 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Arican Sukru
Arican Sukru

Mark Hayes was all-in for 111,000 and at risk versus Arican Sukru, in the first hand of hand-for-hand play - with 52 players left and 50 to qualify for Day 2. There was another all-in on Table 7 at the same time.

Mark Hayes: KK All in
Arican Sukru: AK

Hayes was dominating his opponent, but the ace was in the window on the A82 flop, and his face turned to ash. He was already up out of his chair and basically out the door before the 74 turn and river were dealt.

On the other table, on a flop of 865 and with around 130,000 in the middle, Salvatore Giudice had jammed for 190,000 and been called by Sebastian Mortensen.

Salvatore Giudice: QQ All in
Sebastian Mortensen: J7

Giudice was ahead with the overpair, but Mortensen had a monster draw. However he got there in the most savage way possible, the turn and river bringing the J and the 7 to give Mortensen two pair.

The watching crowd went wild, and the moment was made even more dramatic by the fact that Giudice thought he had held, clearly more concerned about the flush, and started celebrating. He put his head in his hands and walked away to the back of the room to be consoled by a friend when he realized the true position.

Play has now concluded in Day 1f for the day, stay tuned for updated chip counts and a recap of the day.

Mortensen Binks River to Bust Thorburg

Level 15 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Sebastian Mortensen opened to 20,000 and short-stack Charlotte Thorburg moved all in for around 55,000. Mortensen called.

Charlotte Thorburg: A3 All in
Sebastian Mortensen: J10

Thorburg was ahead, and remained so after the Q87 flop, giving Thorburg a flush draw, and the 6 turn. However Mortensen had flopped a straight draw and it came in on the 9 river.

Thorburg was not best pleased, but had to take her leave.

Sami Barghouthi
Sami Barghouthi

Daniele De Vita was all-in for 75,000 and at risk versus Sami Barghouthi.

Daniele De Vita: QQ All in
Sami Barghouthi: AK

It was the classic battle, but De Vita's hopes of a double-up were short-lived, as the king was in the window on the KJ337 runout, Barghouthi allowing himself a little celebration as the river hit.

The bubble is now approaching, with 55 players left.

It was a flip, and although Dunn remained ahead after the Q109 flop, the K hit on the turn and was followed by the A river to give Robinson two pair.

Bamford Running Up a Stack

Level 12 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Jordan Bamford is on his third bullet in this flight, but it could be third time lucky. He is up to 295,000 after busting Salvatore Genovese - Bamford held KK on the 10610J5 runout, while Genovese had KJ, the chips going in preflop.

Mawick Busts Two

Level 11 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Carsten Mawick
Carsten Mawick

The cards were just being swept away, but Carsten Mawick had just eliminated Oleg Drews and Tommaso Marangi, holding queens and ace-king respectively, with pocket eights - flopping a set on a board that also featured an ace, with the money presumably going in preflop.

Mawick moves to 750,000 - might he be the player to catch Ludovic Uzan at the top of the Day 2 standings? He'll have to double his stack from here to do so.

Jakobsen Busts Major

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

After tangling with the same player a short time earlier, Tomas Major was getting up out his chair after having busted to Thomas Jakobsen.

Major held AK on the 742A7 runout, but his pair of aces were no good against Jakobsen's 74 for the flopped two pair, which improved to a rivered full house.
