Holland Casino Amsterdam
Holland Casino Amsterdam

The Master Classics of Poker is one of the oldest and most recognized tournament festivals in Europe and the 23rd edition of the Main Event will get underway today as of 15:00 local time in the Holland Casino in Amsterdam. The four-day event features a single starting day with a buy-in of €4,000 + €250 and all players receive 30,000 in chips. At least nine levels of 60 minutes each will be played and as of 14:00, the popular one hand satellites take place. In 2013, Noah Boeken emerged victorious in a 298 entry strong field and defeated Simon Persson from Sweden for a payday of €306,821.

Registration for the Main Event remains open until the first card on Day 2 is dealt and unlimited re-entries are possible until then as well. Yesterday's €250 rebuy satellite had 267 entries, 217 rebuys and 217 add ons to generate 39 tickets for the Main Event and €2,490 for the 40th place finisher. Among those to win their seats were such familiar faces as Hossein Ensan, Chino Rheem, Mark Roovers, Rory Brown and Mateusz Moolhuizen.

Another tournament will play down to a winner today as the €10,000 + €250 High Roller Event recommences at 15:00 with an unscheduled third day. MCOP 2012 Main Event champion Ole Schemion (510,000) leads the final four players with almost half the chips in play followed by Dutch high-stakes specialist Rachid Ben Cherif with 388,500 in chips. Bryn Kenney won the very same event in 2013 and is still in with 170,000 in chips whereas Aviv Meiri is the short stack on 71,500 in chips. The winner of the event receives €139,194, Salman Behbehani (6th, €26,334) and Floris van der Ven (5th, €30,096) cashed last night.

Jorryt van Hoof headlines the event as November Niner and third place finisher of the World Series of Poker Main Event two weeks ago and the Dutchman is the ambassador of the MCOP 2014. The PokerNews live reporting will be keep you up to date until November 28th when a winner is crowned.

Joentausta gets involved early

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

In the main area next to the feature table there are a couple of well known names such as Govert Metaal, Aku Joentausta, Nikolaus Teichert and November Niner Jorryt van Hoof. Joentausta got involved in a three-way pot straight away and raised a bet of 600 by the initial raiser from under the gun from 600 to 1,900 on a flop of {8-Spades} {7-Spades} {7-Hearts}.

Only the player in the small blind called and they then checked the {4-Diamonds} on the turn. The {J-Hearts} appeared on the river and the Finn quickly folded when his opponent made a bet of 2,825.

A very Active Table

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Nikolaus Teichert picked an unfortunate timing to bluff away almost one third of his stack into pocket aces and the table itself is loaded with well known names and plenty of action. Eduard Bhaggoe raised to 200, Jorryt van Hoof reraised to 400 and found one caller before David Boyaciyan four-bet to 1,800. Bhaggoe, van Hoof and the third player involved and they saw the flop of {A-Spades} {K-Spades} {9-Clubs} that was checked through. Bhaggoe bet 2,000 on the {4-Hearts} turn and that won the pot.

One hand later, Boyaciyan four-bet to 1,600 and this time the two other opponents folded.

O'Dwyer Bluff Fails

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Steve O'Dwyer fired a bet of 800 on the turn of a {3-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{J-Spades} board against one player who check-called the bet. The river was the {4-Spades} and the latter checked again, O'Dwyer bet 2,200 but was quickly called.

The Irishman shook his head, "Nothing," showing {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. His opponent showed {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and picked up the pot.
