Martin Finger Leads After Day 1b of the 2015 Master Classics of Poker Main Event

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Martin Finger
Martin Finger

The second starting day of the €4,250 LIDO Main Event of the 2015 Master Classics of Poker drew a field of 178 participants. Nine levels of 60 minutes each later, only 95 of them bagged up chips. Along with the 44 from Day 1a, this makes for 139 survivors for Day 2 with an overall field of 278 thus far.

Registration and reentry will remain open until the first cards are dealt on Day 2, and there will be an average of 60 big blinds at the start of the upcoming Level 10. All new sign-ups will receive an initial stack of 30,000 and several of those that busted in the second flight are expected to return Wednesday for another shot at the title at Holland Casino in Amsterdam.

Leading the field after Day 1b was Martin Finger with a hefty 195,800 in chips. He's followed by Marco Guldenaar with 181,400. Canadian poker pro Timothy Adams (149,200), who bubbled the €10,000 High Roller Event two days ago, claimed 100 chips more than Day 1a leader Rens Feenstra and completed the overnight podium.

Other big stacks included Omer Cubukcu (131,300), Antoine Vranken (129,400), the hot-running Tobias Peters (117,700) who finished first and second in two MCOP side events in consecutive days, Ilan Boujenah (101,600), as well as Johan van Til (100,400).

Several other notables bagged up chips for Day 2, albeit a little less. Former November Niner Michiel Brummelhuis (98,700), High Roller winner Kuljinder Sidhu (90,500), 2012 champion Ole Schemion (82,600), Pascal Vos (78,800), and Steve O'Dwyer (73,200) were just a few that claimed an above-average stack

On the other side of the fence, among those to hit the rail were Olvedo Heinze, Bryn Kenney, Niels van Leeuwen, Fatima Moreira de Melo, Ben Wilinofsky, Jorryt van Hoof, and Nikolaus Teichert.

Teichert was the first to leave after losing a flip to Samy Kamal, where the latter held a big stack until the dinner break and then vanished.

The same applied for Matthew Miller and Steve Watts, who lost a big pot after running into the quads of Finger and busting on a flush draw shortly after.

Philipp Gruissem's big combo draw failed to improve against Guldenaar and the German reentered without being able to run up his stack.

The most spectacular hand of the day saw Per Munksgaard bust three opponents at the same time, including Ben Wilinofsky.

Day 2 will continue at 14:00 local time on Wednesday with blinds of 500/1,000 and a running ante of 100. As soon as the first card is dealt, registration will close and the prize pool information and payouts will be finalized.

Whether or not the money will be reached on the second tournament day is uncertain, because the level duration increases to 75 minutes. Either way, you can expect PokerNews to be here every step of the way providing live coverage until a winner is crowned on Friday.

Guldenaar Busts Gruissem

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Philipp Gruissem
Philipp Gruissem

Marco Guldenaar opened to 2,000 and Philipp Gruissem three-bet to 5,000 from two seats over. Guldenaar called and check-raised the flop {A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} flop from 6,000 to 16,000. Gruissem called and then faced the all in of the Dutchman on the {K-Diamonds} turn for 51,400. Gruissem only had 45,000 himself and eventually called it off:

Gruissem: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Guldenaar: {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The {Q-Spades} river bricked and that sent Gruissem to the rail while Paul Berende bought back in.

Watts from Hero to Zero

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Steve Watts
Steve Watts

Steve Watts raised to 1,100 at the end of the previous level and faced the three-bet of Martin Finger for 3,900 before clicking to 9,000. Finger called and check-called a bet of 9,000 on the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop. An ace on the turn was checked through and the blank river saw Finger shove with the {8-Spades}{9-Spades}. Watts called with {A-Spades}{4-Spades} according to the German and lost most of his stack.

Soon after, Watts defended his big blind against a raise and the call of David Elyashar in the small blind. On the flop {9-}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts} he got it in with {8-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the flush draw. Elyashar had flopped trips with {J-}{9-} and running sixes sent Watts out of the tournament.

Munksgaard Busts Three in Crazy Hand

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Ben Wilinofsky
Ben Wilinofsky

One Dane has already won the Main Event of the Master Classics since 1992 and Per Munksgaard is on the way to become the second after just winning a four-way all in. The Dane held {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} and put three opponents at risk:

Richard Milne: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Ben Wilinofsky: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Third player: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and the set of kings won the massive pot.

Time to Rise and Shine

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Douglas Roberts
Douglas Roberts

"You can just call me the apple farmer from Germany," Douglas Roberts joked in the break after reporting about three decent runouts in a row over on the feature table.

In the first hand he raised with pocket nines and flopped top set. The continuation bet was called and a second five on the turn gave him a full house. Only one opponent called the second barrel and did so again on a blank river, getting shown the full house.

The second hand was equally sweet with ace-king in the big blind and flat-calling a raise. On a king-high flop, Roberts check-called a continuation bet to do so again after an ace appeared on the turn. The second ace on the board gave him a full house and the bet of the American was not called, yet he still showed.

Last but not least, the lucky charm, jack-ten suited, found a jack on the flop and a ten on the turn. A possible flush on the river saw a bet of 6,100 by the opponent of Roberts and he called to receive a muck in return before showing his cards.

While Roberts' trend continues to rise and shine, Artur Koren's stack dwindled all the way down to just 13,000 at the very same table.

Milne's Move at the Wrong Time

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Antoine Vranken
Antoine Vranken

Antoine Vranken raised to 1,025 and the player in the small blind squeezed to 2,650. Richard Milne flat-called and Vranken then reraised to 7,750. Only Milne called and they headed to the {K-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop.

Milne decided to play for stacks and check-raised all in at the worst possible time with {J-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. Vranken snapped him off with the {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and the {a-Clubs} turn and {9-Hearts} river were just a formality.

Early Exit for Teichert

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Nikolaus Teichert
Nikolaus Teichert

"He has been playing very aggressive the whole time, I can't get out there anymore," Nikolaus Teichert said on the rail while chatting with Artur Koren. They were both watching Ole Schemion and Teichert had in fact been the first casualty. He got it in with {A-}{K-} against the jacks of Samy Kamal and the board bricked.

Only moments later, Steven van Zadelhoff raised and Pieter de Korver three-bet to 1,000. Kamal called and van Zadelhoff then reraised to fold to a shove of de Korver. It must have been a lot of action, as de Korver lost a considerable amount of chips in a short time.

Welcome to Day 1b of the 2015 Master Classics of Poker Main Event

MCOP Logo Table
MCOP Logo Table

The second starting day of the €4,000 + 250 LIDO Main Event of the Master Classics of Poker at the Holland Casino is scheduled to get underway in half an hour from now at 14:00 local time. In yesterday's first flight, 100 entries were generated and 44 survivors made it through to Day 2 with Rens Feenstra leading the pack at 149,100 chips.

Plenty of notables already booked their seat for tomorrow, however a bumper field of pros and amateurs alike is expected back at the tables today. Especially the High Rollers, who determined their winner of the €10,000 buy-in last night in Kuljinder Sidhu, will be represented with such familiar names as 2012 MCOP champion Ole Schemion, Jani Sointula and Elliot Smith. Senh Ung, Timothy Adams, Paul Newey and even Steve O'Dwyer are also among the likely contenders for the Main Event title here in the Netherlands as well.

All players that busted on Day 1a and didn't bag up chips are welcome to reenter for the second flight. Furthermore, all participants can purchase a second bullet throughout the nine scheduled levels of one hour each should they run out of the 30,000 chips entirely. The overall prize pool will only be known after the start of Day 2 as the reentry period remains open until the first card is dealt on Wednesday.

The PokerNews live reporting team will bring you fresh news directly from the tables, so make sure to check in often. For Twitter updates, the official hashtag of the event on Twitter is #MCOP.
